The line between Stretford and Dane Road runs alongside the Bridgewater Canal as it crosses the Mersey (and its flood plain) near what is now Sale Water Park. The construction of the M63, now the M60, cutting across that area to the south of the Mersey together with the creation of the Water Park, rather changed the feel of the area, but there's still a fair amount of green.
