Following the thread - very impressed with the progress so far, looking forward to seeing your interpretation of a PTG tour... having done a few myself!

The lamp posts would work very well as a 3d print, happy to draw them up for you if you've a decent photo?

Regards

Richard.

To update we are 'somewhere' between Evora and Monsaraz where a line from Estremoz 'joined' and crossed the Spanish border. Hence we justify 'south' locos (big Alcos etc) and 'North' locos from Entoncamento (1400s and Bombardiers) Here are two photos of the grain silos at Monsarraz. The cement trains ran here until about 4 years ago, then the High Speed plan closed it all and then it didn't happen. Here is the now shot and the before shot.

Thank you - I go through Lisbon around 6 times a year for work, so local contact details would be fine. Obrigado & Cumprimentos.

I've only just discovered this thread now...! Bit late!

Ian - do a search for JGmodelismo - Jorge Garcia. He was the one who arranged the guy to the conversion.

For JohnA here is some Lisbon inspiration....! 158722 (Or Andrew Donnelly) is the plonker in the baseball cap and sunnies near the tram stop in the first picture.....

Thanks Si for the photos. Oh, I do love those Lisbon trams.

John

We now have the station building renamed thanks to Maket 4 You whose kit it is. Campo De Leste (Eastfield, sic!) the station crapper is Malcolms own work and lovely it is too. Just hoping it doesn't have scale odours. The tiles are the transfer sheets from Maket.

Things are happening under the surface, Jim has worked out an ingenious way of using Tortoises on their side with a crank and wire to get the lever to push the points. The Lenz modules are fitted (no control panel here!!) They then go down to Newcastle for some scenic work, electrical tests permitting!!

Meanwhile we are off to Porto to try the real thing again like this!!

It isn't cardboard. It is a mixed media kit and comes fully built. Some laser cut wood, some plastic (pan tiled roof areas), metal etches on canopies  some perspex etc etc. Yes it is still expensive but when was modelling Portugal ever cheap (too small a market full stop)? It is pretty much fully finished, etched windows, glazing, tiling on wall etc etc all separate. You kind of get what you pay for. Look at the cost of some of the UK outline laser cut wooden kits. The silo is much better value, still not cheap but massive and half the price of the station. It has also been fiddled with though, adding some pipe runs and pan tiled roof areas. The goods sheds are also exquisite and a fair bit cheaper, but are in kit form or fully built options.

This unholy mess is the far right hand corner of the layout. The corners have been 'Chris Nevard-ed' in that we have curved the back scene with Foamex to create a cornerless look, into the space will be going the edge of a vineyard, which will come down to trackside. Looks messy? You can see where the cottages, bar etc end which is just to the right of the station building. This board is currently on Tyneside with Malcolm Donnelly, master scenics man. The rest is still in Stirling and all the electrics work and we are running trains successfully on it. Next stage would be the return of this board and swap with another. Manwhile we have decided to build a longer fiddle yard, "just in case" we need to run a Talgo or somesuch.

Some test running of the 'off the wall' diesel fleet on a certain well known Scottish Region OO layout! The MLW is a very low build special, resin/brass etc. OK but nothing like Norbrass quality. Probably chosen because it is a) all straight lines and easy to make B) not been done recently. The Alco 1300 is a Mabar Spanish model of a RENFE loco which CP took a number of a few years ago. All gone back now and a few survive with infra companies? The 1400s are Sud Express and the only affordable high quality RTR diesel loco done for Portugal as yet!

We have taken delivery of the PTG Railtours characters. You know who you are!!

Completely forgot about this little set-up Mr B...

Top one must be Big Gaz. No hair just like the man himself. Bottom one will be me..... Hic!

Anyway, if you need any inspiration for a sandpit of a station for when you do a baseboard extention, take a visit to Vilela-Fornos. Nice little restuarant 5 mins away. The Leitao (Suckling Pig) is superb! Just ask 158722. Don't mention cats.....

Hello Mark/...nice to hear from you. We want plenty detail and vignettes/cameos so any info would be good. There will be an EPAL van with a bunch of clueless numpties staring into a manhole somewhere!

Vilela-Fornos station (2 stops north of Coimbra B ) is a typical wayside halt. No station building, two low-height platforms made of sand/gravel with a foot crossing in the centre. There is a small concrete shelter on the up platform. A road bridge at the south end (A good scenic break). A few houses surround the station that seem to be infested with feral cats... Speak to Mr D regarding photos as he took a few while we were there fighting the cats. Anyway, it will soon be local to him, so he can get the tape measure out.

As for the restaurante, Google Rui dos Leitoes...B)

Line speed here? 200km/h? And a foot crossing for passengers? Brilliant!!

Passengers????

I think we were the only three passengers to bail off a train here all day. As for passengers getting on a train, only us three again.....

As for line speed, I reckon its around 140km/h here. Perhaps somebody local to the vicinity can confirm what the line speed is.
