Thanks for the link Andy... http://www.gtbuildin...o.uk/page3.html

The buildings are so reminiscent of structures I saw many years ago as a young man. The industrial areas of Lancashire and Yorkshire are barely flat anywhere and this is well depicted in the Dewsbury Midland buildings. What a job the brickies and stone masons had designing and building culverts, bridges into the sub-structure even before actual construction of the buildings took place. Looking at the afore-mentioned link, I can imagine standing on many of those lanes and streets, sunlight rarely penetrated some areas. Dank walls lining inky black rivers threading their way under buildings and footways looked very threatening. That much I remember. Any of those buildings would not be out of place in a northern based museum.

The 7mm blue era colliery would be Simon Thompson's Y Cae.

Ah, yes that's it, ta.

What is it about photos showing up faults on layouts!!!!!

Not only did you manage to pick up a droopy signal arm before I re-programmed it. (Merg system) But it seems the operator at the time (me) didn't return the points and signals fully after the previous move.....................

Well, surely by this time the signal mechs would be getting a bit worn... (if it was in steam days though...)

Some shots from the gallery (perks of being 'staff'). Taken on Saturday. In addition to the main hall there was also a smaller upper hall which I think worked very well. I'd had reservations that it wouldn't get visited but it worked very well and had an atmosphere similar to those of the specialist shows. Required additional signage to and from the upper hall has been noted and will be provided for next year.

Just a quick note to add my thanks (on behalf of the SRC New Haden crew) to all the Manchester MRS team for organising such a great show and to all the other exhibitors for the top quality layouts.

Pleased to say our layout behaved itself (well most of the time anyway) and we didn't forget anything!

Cheers, looking forward to visiting your 75th show next year!

Thanks to all involved in the Manchester show for a great weekend, my operators and I had a reaqlly good time. The rain even held off for the whole journey home. Special thanks to the ladies on the tea/coffee stand for keeping us watered :)

I did however spend far too much at International Models and Green Scene getting tree-making materials for the new layout :(

Looking at the photo's of the venue, what was behind the green door curtains (that shows how old I am - a pop song!!) at the far end.....

Chairs, the foldaway staging and a very large roller shutter door which made setting up and stripping down very easy indeed Penlan :D

Thank god not some faded pop star coming out singing a hit we'd rather not remember - mind you, Pete Waterman was wandering around the show on Sunday

Was a bit weird being in a sports hall for the Manchester show, felt like a little Wigan or comparable with Wakefield.

The upper hall I felt was out of the way and lacked custom, I would suggest next year mixing it up more with at least one larger layout up there to get people up there.

One thing I did like - the dead end alley with the chairs, felt it created a flow to move around the exhibition and utilised more space for layouts.

Overall a good show and I spent a good 3 hours wandering around on the Sunday.

Liked the show a great deal - excellent layouts and the new venue is good. Minor gripe but a second refreshment outlet would have been nice, perhaps just serving tea, coffee and soft drinks for those who only wanted a beverage. Perhaps there was one but if so I missed it.

Already looking forward to next year.

Unfortunately I was not able to attend this year due to family commitments Sat & Sun daytime (Including sat in car for 4 hours crawling through Blackpool Illuminations  on Saturday night). Looks like I missed a very good show from the comments posted and the pictures aswell. Will have to make sure I attend next year and will pencil it in my diary! Looking at those pictures further up the thread, seems to be a very busy with a large number of 'punters' in attendance which is always a good sign!

Well done

Simon

On Saturday and earlier on the Sunday the upper hall was actually very busy indeed. There were perhaps more demos going on this year than normal which skewed the content of the room a bit but I certainly wouldn't agree that over the whole weekend it didn't get enough custom.

I was unable to make it as I was at a Wedding in Kings Lynn, although a move to a new venue is always a gamble espessily is you move to an out of town location, as you need to attact people who make the effort to attend rather than picking up passing trade.

Andy how did attendence compaire to the previous venue, I know when we moved Railex seven years ago it was a gamble for us but with hindsight we made the right choice, also roughly what is the square footage of the show.

Once you have done one show at a new venue the following years you will get eaiser as you improve the way you do things and start to bolt on new features, normally catering is the biggest headache as how ever much you tell the venue what to expect they never belive you.

normally catering is the biggest headache as how ever much you tell the venue what to expect they never belive you.

That's what we found the first year that the Derby show moved from the Assembly Rooms to Moorways Sports Centre. Their bar area started with 200 ham/cheese rolls and they were all gone by 11.30 :O We were directing people to the cafe at the swimming pool where meals were cooked to order and that created a wait of over an hour. We had a few rolls left from exhibitors lunches that we sold to those who wanted them.

That night the manager went to Asda on his way home and bought what ever he could get hold of and Sunday wasn't a problem. Pleased to say they learnt from this mistake and we weren't aware of any issues with catering for the public this year. :)

Hi Jamie

I think that you have posted this on the wrong thread. It should be on the Merseyside Model Railway Exhibition site Not Manchester. I know layouts I have built for Martin Jones have gone to the show but to date I have not had an invite to it. Always hoping as they most like what i do.

Just a quick belated message to say thanks to Andy C and MMRS team for their welcome (including latex gloves...don't ask...I dindt really have any allen keys on me honest) and the hospitailty over the weekend. The new venue certainly makes unloading and loading much easier and quicker. Had a 'orrible journey up the M6 on the Friday but the rain had stopped by the time I arrived, thankfully. I know the organising team realise that the catering needs a little tweaking for next year (a separate serving area for the exibitors would ceretainly help) thses are minor things associated with any change of venue. The main hall is a good size and well lit but did get somewhat warm in the afternoons. Fisherton Sarum behaved, in my eyes, like a bag of bolts foir the first hour or so on the Saturday morning but things soon settled (helped by a couple of tweaks to baseboard joins) down and behaved its self for the rest of the weekend. Did have one heart stopping moment when a young lad being held in his father arms leaned forward and had a go at rotating my turntable by hand which didnt do the conection between the deck and and its drive shaft much good!

All in all a good show with as ever an excellent standard of layouts and traders.

Was nice to be located next to Andy and the RMweb stand but despite this didnt manage to natter to him much all weekend!

Thansk also to my operating team of my Mum and Dad and fellow members of the High Wycombe and District MRS Roger, Mark (GWMark) and Daniel.
