Torn-on-the-platform
Hello everyone! Something I have always wanted to do is take photos of steam trains in the snow. I have never really had the chance, especially with the recent lack of snow. 2009's snow would have been perfect, but it came on a Sunday night and had all but melted by the next weekend, and which railways run a steam service during the week in February? Very few I imagine. I have had a scout of the internet, looking for snowy Bluebell Railway photos in particular and was suprised at how hard it was to find anything! So I came up with the idea to start a thread for people to contribute their own wintery railway photography. Perhaps some anecdotes as well! If all goes to plan, this thread could turn into a great little album! I don't mind when or where the photos were taken, and snow is not a necessity. Steam in the air is always preferable! Wintery morning and evening shots would also be more than welcome. I apologise that I currently have nothing to contribute myself, but I hope to get a visit or two to a 'local' railway over my Christmas break, so hopefully I will contribute in time! RMweb Premium 5944 Posted December 16, 2009 RMweb Premium Share Posted December 16, 2009 Not snow, but very heavy frost at the Bluebell in January this year. It was about minus 8 when I arrived! Sharpthorn tunnel was shut due to the amount of icicles hanging down, so services were only running Sheffield Park to Horsted Keynes. http://5944.fotopic.net/c1636955.html
Torn-on-the-platform
Brilliant shots of the Dukedog, I'm used to seeing it in Black now - seems odd that less than a year ago it was still in Green! Thick frost, clear skies, leaking steam. Perfect. When I wrote this post last night, I wasn't expecting today's snow! Unfortunately its raining in Sheffield. I hope the real snow can wait until Saturday afternoon so it doesnt disrupt my journey home to London.
Lord of the Badgers
I've yet to see the Dukedog in person, so to speak she should be on a western line dammit! Great shots of the 'dog & agree with comments on the 9f & also feel dead envious of anyone who could take photos of BR steam...

RMweb Premium 5944 Posted December 19, 2009 RMweb Premium Share Posted December 19, 2009 A couple of photos from Digswell Viaduct today in the snow. Typically it was lovely and sunny when I left the house in Stevenage, but by the time I'd driven down there it had clouded over and stayed gloomy for the rest of the afternoon. eastwestdivide
Cuxton in 1985, from the M2 Medway viaduct, a photo now impossible due to the high-speed line (and the lack of 4-CEPs). They were running 8-car trains for insurance in the snow I think.

Grovenor
Nostalgia you wanted? First up one for JimSW but the locos are out of shot. Then we have trains waiting nose to tail on the Crewe avoiding lines to enter the South Yards. And finally a bit of atmosphere. Regards Keith
