RMweb Gold phil_sutters Posted January 20, 2016 RMweb Gold Share Posted January 20, 2016 I did say that Dad didn't venture far in adverse conditions - this trio must have been taken when Dad was staying with my sister who lived in Newport at the time. RMweb Gold phil_sutters Posted January 26, 2016 RMweb Gold Share Posted January 26, 2016 This I think is one final contribution from Dad's albums. I say 'think' because the snow on the platforms looks half melted and it is only the patches in the distance that really seem snowy. Unless we get some more this year - that's it folks! Fat Controller
I did say that Dad didn't venture far in adverse conditions - this trio must have been taken when Dad was staying with my sister who lived in Newport at the time. I remember that winter of 1962/3 well, even though it was before my 8th birthday. In Llanelli, the snow seemed to stay on the ground for ever; it lasted long enough for me to almost complete an igloo in the garden. The iron-ore train is probably an empty from the recently-opened Llanwern steelworks to Newport Docks. The steel train is probably from Scunthorpe to Cardiff (not sure which yard- Pengam? Tidal?)- it was a working that continued into the 1970s.

Arun Sharma
I remember London in 1962/3. Snow started on Boxing Day 1962 and there was still snow on the ground in Leyton at the beginning of April '63.
RMweb Gold phil_sutters Posted January 30, 2016 RMweb Gold Share Posted January 30, 2016 I know this is pushing it a bit - but there is snow - albeit on the way out and not exactly picturesquely snowy!
Rivercider
We don't often get significant snowfall in Weston-super-Mare, but in early 1982 there was some. Class 121 single power car B132 (55032) is on a working to Bristol Temple Meads, 11/1/82 cheers

RMweb Gold 4630 Posted March 3, 2018 RMweb Gold Share Posted March 3, 2018 Resurrecting an old thread, as there's been a bit of snow about ! 45699 Galatea worked 'The Pennine Limited' rail tour on 3rd March 2018, approaching Brighouse with the remnants of this weeks snow still evident. 47772 brought up the rear. Northern's contractors had done a good job at Brighouse station of clearing the platforms of snow, with only a little left on the ballast when 45699 paused to take water. Rumblestripe
December 2011, I was passing through Garsdale in some lovely clear weather with fresh snow on the ground. I had time to stop and take some shots of the station in the snow. There are a few more on my RMWeb Garsdale gallery http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/gallery/album/835-garsdale/
