RMweb Gold colin penfold Posted February 8, 2019 RMweb Gold Share Posted February 8, 2019 How often, if at all, would you have trains in the fiddleyard unattended without a loco attached? If not, you could just have the fiddleyard on a suitable gradient to compensate. Could keep a couple of chocks available for the odd occasion to prevent runaways. A lot easier than some highly technical carpentry solution.

RMweb Gold Enterprisingwestern Posted February 8, 2019 RMweb Gold Share Posted February 8, 2019 The other option is to re build all the stock to my levels of incompetence, doesn't roll very freely at the best of times. Mike. 2
RMweb Gold Stubby47 Posted February 8, 2019 RMweb Gold Share Posted February 8, 2019 Keeping the FY boards level would mean they could be used for another project. I like Spam's idea of inclines on the curved boards.
RMweb Premium 2ManySpams Posted February 8, 2019 RMweb Premium Share Posted February 8, 2019 I think the level difference is only 15-20mm iirc.

Indomitable026
I'm not sure which way to go on this. Ultimately loosing 15-20mm on the straight section at the back, which is at least 20 feet long, shouldn't bother anything, however loosing the height either end around the curves feels neater. Hmm.

Mike. You've obviously not felt the draw-bar weight of my china clay rake, I think most of the wagons have 'dragging brakes'. Surprised the wheels don't have flats on them... 1
RMweb Gold Stubby47 Posted February 8, 2019 RMweb Gold Share Posted February 8, 2019 Build the FY on two slightly different levels (one 15-20 mm higher). That way, the lines coming off the layout to the FY can be the inclines (down from the pub - inner circuit), up from the tunnel (outer circuit) whereas the lines onto the scenic section are flat from the FY. Unless you think that's too complex

stewartingram
Could you not put larger wheels on one end of each piece of rolling stock to keep them level.....? Stewart

Indomitable026
Legs. I’ve elected to use a leg system that I’ve used on my P4 Highland Sulzers Project. Link here This will be for the master board.
Indomitable026
I’ve started stripping down the ‘A frame trestles this morning. Measurements have revealed that the component parts can be reused, this is a big help potentially saving a lot of time. Here is the ‘L’ shape arrangement I’ll be using for the master board.

Indomitable026
Slowly tapping away at the master board leg job. - I’ve re-enforced the board ends. - put some tabs on the top of the legs and drilled holes to align wth the existing. Here’s one half of the ‘L’ bolted in place. (I know the subjects a bit dry but it motivates me a bit posting this stuff, so bear with me..)
Indomitable026
Well, here’s where I got to before descending down the pub for the rugby... One set of legs fitted, a lot less than I would have liked... 8
Indomitable026
So I’m guessing you’re thinking nothings happening here, well yes almost, except last weekend I nipped to Stafford to pick up the remaining scenic board and part of the front fascia. These I couldn’t quite fit in on the first trip, I also gained a few other boxes which I don’t believe belong to the layout, just Andy and John clearing their respective garages out. Anyway first things first, an important task needed completing - something I’ve not done for many a year and believe me it took me back. A half pounder with cheese, no onions and wimpy special sauce Devine and really took me back to the good old days... 6 1

It's great to see that Wimpy bar is still going after all these years. I can't believe it still survives amid the onslaught of McD's, BK, KFC and the like. It was always something quite special - is there anywhere else quite like it I wonder? 3
