Simond
Hi John, I'm sure you're right, we aficionados of the dark green loco are well served. Particularly, I find, just after I've built (or bought) the kit... Best Simon
Irishrailwaymodeller
Just a simple push fit - two legs through two holes in plastic body. Not very secure but does work OK. Thanks Norman. On my carriages there are no prepared holes in the plastic just a Printed Circuit Board passing through with a "+" marked and a small gap to one side of the square cut-out? Irishrailwaymodeller
That's right. Just poke the wires through the two holes. Thanks Norman, no holes on my coaches so I had to drill small holes - not a great fit and the lamp wobbles and flickers. What I want is a reliable way to plug/unplug the lamp so I can transfer it between the guard's coaches when the loco runs around its train. In my bits and pieces drawer I had some micro plug and sockets (acquired from All Components): I proceeded to draw the electrical board gently back into the guard's compartment: Then I soldered connecting wires (white and black to match those supplied) between the board and the micro socket. Note the use of 1.2mm shrink tubing to insulate each wire: I then carefully soldered the lamp to the micro plug avoiding soldering across the pins: Carefully using a small drill and files, I enlarged the opening at the back of the coach to just allow the plug to pass through: Finally, the excess wire on the lamp was trimmed and with power applied - success - the lamp operates steadily can be easily removed! All that remains is for me to repeat the procedure on the second guard's coach to be able to easily and reliably transfer it between each end of the train. A touch of gel glue will hold the sockets firmly in place:
Simond
Very neat, but volcanically bright! It might be the contrast of the camera. Might an added resistor calm it down a bit? Best Simon

Best Simon I think the camera exaggerates it a bit, looks ok to the eye and won't be missed at an exhibition!

Dreadnought05
There is emphasis on correct scale length and accurate livery application, so perhaps going for the absolute best Mk1 you can buy yet?
steve fay
Heljan’s effort fell short of the mark and the jury is still out on the Darstead examples. I can see these being very popular indeed.
brossard
It's down to value Steve. Helan's seem overpriced to me. The Darstaedt's are at a good price point but we haven't had any production sample reviews yet AFAIK. John
RMweb Gold Captain Kernow Posted November 28, 2017 RMweb Gold Share Posted November 28, 2017 Sorry if this is the wrong thread, but is there any news on the re-release of the Lionheart/Dapol 64XX and 74XX tanks, please?
Guest Q663389
Sorry if this is the wrong thread, but is there any news on the re-release of the Lionheart/Dapol 64XX and 74XX tanks, please? Supposedly late 2017 according to Tower Models, but that is here and almost gone. I haven't checked Antic's website. They are usually current with dates. The Darstaedt's are at a good price point but we haven't had any production sample reviews yet AFAIK. John IMHO any resemblance of a Heljan BR Mk1 to the prototype is merely coincidently. The GUV was even worse. Hence why they are / were over priced. Heljan have done a lot to promote O gauge modelling and we are grateful, but they had a great opportunity to lead the way. Having said that, they have sold almost everything they have produced. The Darstaedt ones have potential, Ignoring the lack of the stretcher window in the CK. A least the profile looks better. Time will tell. I am looking forward to the Lionheart one's. Alan

Guest Q663389
Some time next year I think An expensive year, Mk1's, more 14T tank wagons and hopefully the BR 3MT or two. Alan
class56xxfan
Mine also..........two days late ............nah my fault for postponing delivery one day, so they came two days later! The four car set comes in a mighty big box though.......upon unpacking I wondered what the tiny bit of PCB poking out of the end of the brake coach was, then I realised Lionheart/Dapol supply a little rear lamp to slip into the board thus giving a working brake lamp, brilliant stuff. how do you fit the tail light ??? RMweb Premium boxbrownie Posted December 29, 2017 RMweb Premium Share Posted December 29, 2017 how do you fit the tail light ??? There are two small holes in the PCB (they might need opening out slightly), the lamp has two wire/prongs which slide into the holes.
Mr Grumpy
I do like Richard's products :-) I have several items of rolling stock, and have his 45xx and a couple of maroon Mk1s on order. In the meantime, this little beauty arrived just in time for Christmas:-)
RMweb Gold gwrrob Posted December 29, 2017 RMweb Gold Share Posted December 29, 2017 This needs to be posted too on the 4mm Dapol mogul thread as Richard has said work and information on this will help produce the 4mm version.

RMweb Premium Hal Nail Posted February 4, 2018 RMweb Premium Share Posted February 4, 2018 I'm having a go at opening a few windows on my Lionheart B Set. Does anyone know would these have been the type with a leather strap to adjust the height (in which case I should try and have them roughly similar heights)?
Miss Prism
Yes, the droplights did have leather straps to adjust the opening height. 4 or 5 holes in the straps iirc. See http://www.gwr.org.uk/liveries1/baugh.pdf for some colour.
RMweb Premium 2ManySpams Posted February 4, 2018 RMweb Premium Share Posted February 4, 2018 Would the holes in the straps be at something like 3" centres?
Miss Prism
Don't know. I would estimate nearer 4.5" centres. A PM to K14 here will get some better gen.
