(Sorry I don't think I will get to Leeds, but might manage Doncaster.) All fine and dandy, thanks. Usually needs a quick polish of the wheels before a show but apart from that, much as she's ever been - a delightfully characterful member of the regular roster. 1

drmditch
Hoping to get to Leeds on Saturday, and it will be good to see Grantham again in all it's glory. I just hope that the crowds are not too large and people cope with wearing masks. 2
LNER4479
Well, here we are on the eve of Grantham going out on the road for the first time since Jan 2020 Taken a few minutes ago. Somehow, out of this chaos, there's an exhibitable model railway ... well that's the theory. Been pretty much flat out on the layout over the last few weeks, certainly since the running session when the layout has been fully set up. There's loads I could show you ... but only fair I think to leave a little bit of exclusivity to the Leeds club and their show this coming weekend. If you're coming along, then hope you'll spot and enjoy the recent improvements. If you're unable to then expect some updates next week, once we're safely back from the show. In the meantime, a few teasers ... Look forward to seeing you there if you're coming along!

RMweb Premium Michael Edge Posted October 22, 2021 RMweb Premium Share Posted October 22, 2021 Herculaneum looks much the same at the moment. Just waiting for the van to arrive now - and there's more of it in the garage....

RMweb Premium Michael Edge Posted October 22, 2021 RMweb Premium Share Posted October 22, 2021 Long term plan for Cwmafon is to cut it down a bit so it will fit in the shed, it only needs about 9in off the width but the length will be more of a problem. 1
Popular Post LNER4479
Well, here we are, a little earlier this afternoon, layout set up proceeding. We're in the foyer so more or less first thing you see on your right as you enter. Bit more work to do in the morning then we should be ready to go.

Popular Post LNER4479
Just a few pix from today, grabbed as I could from my viewpoint as shed operator. My two D2s in shot, one superheated, the other saturated. One detail improvement in the background is the addition of advertising signs on the station buildings. The D2 (3050) now at the head of the Howlden quint set. An unusual viewpoint but showing some recent detail improvements including windows in 'Old Shed' and coal stage details - not visible to the public! Steady day today - show quiet, visitor-wise so plenty of room for everyone. More tomorrow, all being well. RMweb Premium Ian Smeeton Posted October 23, 2021 RMweb Premium Share Posted October 23, 2021 I thoroughly enjoyed watching Grantham this afternoon. As I live just down the road in South Witham, it is great to see some familiar landmarks, although a lot of what is depicted on the model has been swept away in the name of 'progress'. Thank you for taking the time to talk to me, Red Leader. Looking forward to the next outing. Regards Ian 3
Popular Post Ollie K
I’ve never spent as long enjoying observing one layout at an exhibition as much as Grantham yesterday. Truly a masterclass in ‘watching the trains go by’ mixed with intricate shunting, loco changes and shed movements, against the backdrop of all the exquisite scene-setting detail. I’m LNER-biased, but it’s probably my all-time favourite exhibition layout, and a credit to all involved. Thanks to Graham for taking the time during his hectic MPD-commanding schedule to have a good introductory chat. Cheers all, Ollie 30

gr.king
Not that it matters, but I see somebody dared to depart from the time-honoured set-up instructions when they coupled a Howlden six-wheeled full brake to the visually matching vehicles of what I understand to be "the Leicester set". That set usually has a Gresley BY ("fruit and veg" van???) attached, the six wheel brake doing service elsewhere as another coupling converter vehicle...
Popular Post jwealleans
I'm no grass and I shall take to my grave the name of the layout owner who set out the North End passenger sets.... It did matter because I had a stream of North End operators asking me where that van was and it was always round the front when they wanted it. I'd like to apologise to any disappointed fans for my absence today - I was struck with a shockingly bad migraine and am only just out of bed - and also record my appreciation of my diamond of a wife who is even now on her way back from Leeds with the stock, having volunteered to go and help break the layout down.
