Nobby (John)
Great layout, has it featured in Railway Modeller or another magazine? Rail Express and BRM
Thermos
..... The layout has obviously been compressed to a certain extent with most of the sidings not being there but we explain that away as a process of rationalization, after all the layout is set in 1977 and the real Towcester closed in 1966. However we like to think that we have made a fairly accurate job of re-creating this long gone railway centre.... Having studied the line and walked most of it, not to mention stood on the platforms in the early 1990's before they were demolished, I would certainly agree that you have more than captured the feel and look. I look forward to seeing it in the flesh - hopefully at MK later in the year. ATVB Gary

37114
Towcester is up and running at Trainwest, come by and say hello. Great to see this in the flesh for the first time today and meet up again. It is a great layout although it is not how I remember Towcester as you have put a station where Tesco and Homebase is ;-)
Nobby (John)
A couple of pictures from Trainwest, featuring a few of the scrap/condemned wagons that were built for us by Richard Coleman ( cobbler on RMweb ). These are stored on the disused line.

Nobby (John)
The Towcester museum is planning an exhibition about the SMJ from June to September. We have been asked if we would allow our Towcester layout to be a large part of it. Final discussions are taking place but I am hopeful and pleased to be asked if we could let it be part of their plans. Nobby (John)
As an update on the previous post, The SMJ exhibition in Towcester Museum is now scheduled to start on the 15th August as this is when George Woodcock and myself will be erecting Towcester layout in the museum where it will stay as a large part of the exhibition for 6 months. http://towcestermuseum.co.uk/
George Woodcock
Hello The exhibition at Towcester museum starts on August 20th and will run for approximately 6 months. If any-one wants to see it running as opposed to a static exhibit it will be at the Silverfox DCC exhibition at Milton Keynes next Saturday August 13th. This is the last time it will shown in it's home area for several years Next year it will be off on it's travels across the country again. Cheers George
Derekstuart
A great layout this one. Even when it is static I can still stand and watch it as it really brings the experience of what it would have been like [had it remained open].Off flying the flag for South Northants then? Nobby (John)
And here is the poster for Towcester Museum, George and I will be installing the layout on Monday 15th.
George Woodcock
Hello Towcester is now safely installed in Towcester Museum. The SMJ exhibition opened to the public yesterday and is open till the end of February 2017. As well as our layout there is a fine selection of SMJ and other railway memorabilia from the area. At only £1 to get in seems like a bargain to me but then I didn't have to pay. Towcester's next operational appearance will be at Preston on 4/5 March 2017. George Woodcock
Hello Towcester has now had it's troublesome Dapol semaphore signals replaced by new colour light signals, just like the real railway in the late 1970s. You can see the layout this coming weekend at Ally Pally with one or two other additions and a celebrity guest operator. What more can you ask for. George Woodcock
Hello Towcester had a very successful outing to York. A transformer for part of the lighting rig failed on set up which needed a trip to Maplins on Saturday morning to cure it. Also we had a couple of derailments caused we think by a baseboard joint widening due to the heat in the upper floor with the sun streaming in through the huge glass area. A G clamp soon cured that and things were fine. Lots of people saw the layout over the weekend with large crowds at some of the time. Very nice to have such a good audience. A very tiring weekend but well worth the effort. A very special thanks to our guest celebrity operators Mick Bryan and Dave Tailby for their invaluable help. Cheers George
