RMweb Gold TravisM Posted August 11, 2012 RMweb Gold Share Posted August 11, 2012 Just a heads up, the heritage 1938 tube stock and Met loco are out again on the 9th Sept between Harrow-on-the-Hill and Amersham. I have given you a link and I will be there to see them run, having driven both in a former life lol. Torn-on-the-platform
Very interesting. Thanks Please could you shed some light on the carriages? They look to me like teak panelled mk1s!
Tom J
They are Mk1s with wood-effect vinyl. They look atrocious! Verb sap!
RMweb Gold big jim Posted September 9, 2012 RMweb Gold Share Posted September 9, 2012 a few screen grabs from the video, its great what you can do with an iphone! class 20 leading in the coaches, agreed they do look just wrong, i dont know anything about southern units but it looks to be something like a 4vep or the like.. Paul.Uni
The coaches are a 4TC unit.
RMweb Premium DIW Posted September 9, 2012 RMweb Premium Share Posted September 9, 2012 The coaches are a 4TC unit. They are indeed. When I saw them (a few years ago now, mind) they were in one of the sheds at Ruislip Depot, and were a rather nice maroon colour.
GoingUnderground
An excellent day out. That was the first time that I have travelled behind a MetroVic Bo-Bo. Never had an opportunity before even though I saw then running in the early 1960s. Managed to do quite a bit of video on the '38 stock. All I need now is the time to extract the sounds and start to understand how to create a Loksound Sound project with them. Don't hold your breath waiting. This is very likely to take some considerable time.
Torn-on-the-platform
Thanks chaps. I thought they (the coaches) looked pretty good until I realised what was going on!
RMweb Premium PhilJ W Posted September 11, 2012 RMweb Premium Share Posted September 11, 2012 The coaches are painted in the old Metropolitan 'teak' livery. There are two rakes of original Metropolitan stock in existence, one on the Bluebell and one on the North York Moors Railway. The rake from the Bluebell as I understand it will be used next year for the 150th anniversary celebrations of the Underground. The rake on the NYMR would be more appropriate IMHO as it is the 'Dreadnought' stock as usually hauled by 'Sarah Siddons'.
Matloughe
However the Bogie Stock on the Bluebell is a perfect match for Metropolitan No.1. Cheers, ~ Gary
RMweb Premium PhilJ W Posted September 11, 2012 RMweb Premium Share Posted September 11, 2012 However the Bogie Stock on the Bluebell is a perfect match for Metropolitan No.1. Cheers, ~ Gary Yes indeed, if only they could get both rakes. Its possible the intention is to have 'Sarah Siddons' at one end and number 1 at the other. I think the reason for not using the Dreadnoughts is the cost of bringing them from Yorkshire.
Torn-on-the-platform
There is some metropolitan stock at the KWVR - info here: http://www.vintagecarriagestrust.org/ http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/gallery/image/4170-met-no1-visit-29707-2-17jpg/ - the Bluebell's rake with Met 1! Sorry I can't post a sample, I'm on a new laptop since posting that photo. More can be found in on the Bluebell Railway page of the website in my signature. The Spa Valley also own some T stock, one of the carriages can be seen in action here: http://www.spavalleyrailway.co.uk/SpaBranchline10.htm
RMweb Premium PhilJ W Posted September 11, 2012 RMweb Premium Share Posted September 11, 2012 My mistake, I should have said KWVR not NYMR.
RMweb Premium 5944 Posted September 20, 2012 RMweb Premium Share Posted September 20, 2012 Sarah Siddons is due to haul the Chesham set from the Bluebell next year as part of the Underground 150 celebrations, and is currently at Eastleigh works being refitted with vacuum brakes. Lord of Narnia
I thought she still had the vacuum brake? What is used when hauling the 4TC then?
Dan Hamblin
Two pipe air brake. Regards, Dan
