The notice of the Covent Garden lift renewal ought to help in dating it. I must admit, it looks more 60s/70s to me.

I can't comment on the fashions but the line map behind them shows the Heathrow Terminal 4 loop and T4 station. Terminal 4 opened in 1986.

It is common practice in some communities for the women to cover their heads in public. The ladies in the photograph wearing head scarfs could well be from such a community.

Or it might have been raining.

I have this habit (which irritates Mrs DY444) of tending to focus on the background of pictures, films, TV etc rather than the foreground so the line diagram was the first thing I noticed !

did somebody mention the work of Saltley men?

Is this real? I've seen this same picture many times but never another view. Looks real yet almost a model. Any enlightenment?

What exactly happened? Was it a runaway or did it get a push.

Whatever happened I bet the local underpant shop had at least one purchase soon after

Looks like a scene from one of Rev. Awdry's stories:

As Devious Diesel sat there, with his wheels buried up to their axles, looking at the wagons piled up around him, he wasn't sure which to be more worried about, what the Fat Controller would say or what the other engines would say

Did the consignees/recipients of the contents of the 'Shock' van still expect them to be protected from the impact?

Some lovely details in that picture. It is Reading for sure; on the middle line between the old down and up relief lines (platforms 8&9) and probably waiting to take over the next cross country train. On the left of the picture you can see the TRTS and RA buttons for platform 9 and the luggage trolley is in the right place too! And what a clean locomotive; must be ex-works.

Thanks. I have always thought that it is my best railway photo. Not bad for a teenager!

Possibly the same location as this Scotrail 47.
