caradoc
I visited the SVR today Friday for the end of season event and had a great day. 813 and 13065 (in a proper loco livery !) looked superb. The timetable had to be amended at the last minute due to signalling cable damage, I presume north of Highley as the service beyond there was limited with no crossings at Hampton Loade. The amended service worked well, congratulations and thanks to those who re-organised it at such short notice.

The Crab was a marvellous engine having had a turn on it back in 2001. Unfortunately while unloading pw materials the cable was damaged meaning Hampton could not be switched in. Im pleased to say that it has now been repaired and the original timetable will be in use for the rest of the weekend. Best wishes Duncan
Garethp8873
GWR 813 taking a well earned rest today yesterday's photo charter and the weekend. Was very impressive to see following me last seeing her in August of this year. Also BobM, may I suggest you forward your photo of 813 at Arley to the GWR 813 Fund website? The organisation will appreciate any photos of her Edited November 9, 2016 by Garethp8873
Bert Cheese
Not sure if mentioned elsewhere but there could be yet another Class 50 heading for the SVR soon, 50007 having recently been sold to the Class 50 Alliance by Neil Boden. Seems a little odd to me as he hasn't owned it for long and must have spent a bit of money getting it shipshape again after years of non-investment under previous custodianship, apparently the plan is for mainline charter work after both main and aux/eth generators have been overhauled. *50017 could be for sale too apparently...various folk over on WNXX are of the opinion that Mr Boden only really wants to keep 50050 (D400) in the long term. BobM
Had the great privilege to accompany Arley and Bewdley Station Masters, along with fellow SVR colleagues to the NRHA at the Merchant Taylors Hall in London yesterday.......... The following copied from the SVR web site Arley Station wins prestigious award! It's time to celebrate for Arley and Bewdley! We are pleased to announce the volunteers at Arley have been awarded with the “The Stagecoach Volunteers Award 2016” by the National Railway Heritage Awards (NRHA) committee for their outstanding dedication to maintaining and preserving Arley Station. Arley Station went on to win the award, following close competition in the category from the Barnham Signal Box (Barnham Signal Box Trust) and Scruton Station’s Level Crossing Gates (Wensleydale Railway Association). Bewdley station was also “Highly Commended” by the NRHA in the “Great Western Railway Craft Skills Award” category, recognising their work on the major restoration of the unique island platform canopy of platforms 2 and 3, which began in the winter of 2011 and has since recently been completed. Station Master's Ian Latimer and James Pearson received their Station’s commendations at the prestigious Merchant Taylors’ Hall in London yesterday on December 7th, having been invited alongside other nominated individuals from all over the country. The award will soon be on display at Arley for both the staff and general public to view and can be found in the Booking Office and Waiting Room alongside previous awards for the station. RMweb Gold Metr0Land Posted December 10, 2016 RMweb Gold Share Posted December 10, 2016 Planning ahead, I was thinking of trying to film into the night at the all-night gala 2017 before age overtakes me. I can't seem to find a timetable anywhere online for this year's gala. I appreciate timings may change based on experiences but can anyone pls post (or post a link to) a timetable for 2016 (or even an earlier year) so I can gauge the level of activity well into the night. Tks
Bulleidnutter
This years Autumn gala didnt have any all night running and was a specific timetable for Scotsman/ Tornado. The November event was more akin to a March gala than September gala. The overnight running is usually 1 train that is split in half. The two trains then run, crossing at Arley in the depths of the night. (can be a useful or annoying alarm clock). As to level of service it does change year on year. Redkiterail
metroland the night time running is usually the autumn steam gala which did not happen in 2016 as that was replaced by pacific power event it will be back in 2017 so you may have to wait in the new year for details and summer for the timetable
BobM
Take a look at this drone footage of the SVR's Santa Specials and a fine tribute to the late and great Greg Lake (1947 -2016) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nWcfEf8K0eI Edited December 12, 2016 by BobM

Garethp8873
Whilst down to pick up the new Hornby Merchant Navy today, I happened to go past Kidderminster Station and saw the GWR carriages at the platform. Thinking nothing of it I went and got the Merchant Navy. On the way back though, I headed into the station and starting snapping the carriages there. Getting to the end of the rake, I came across GWR Toplight Carriage Third 2426, the oldest GWR Coach and last Toplight that requires to overhauled. This made my purchasing the Merchant Navy worth it...!!
rogerzilla
There's an opportunity to drive a Class 50 at Kidderminster on the weekend of 8/9 April. I've signed up. I'm not a huge fan of diesels but I do like Class 50s; mainly for the noise they made storming through Thatcham and Newbury in the 1980s. You could hear them coming a mile away.
Garethp8873
Whilst I wasn't able to do the SVR Spring Gala today, a mate of mine gave me a lift up to Bridgnorth today. Was very well worth it once the rain wore off... Today's results...

Garethp8873
Another day and another trip up to Bridgnorth... Whilst I again took photos of 813 and the other locos on the MPD at Bridgnorth today, the main focus of my trip up to Bridgnorth was to take a walk up to Eardington Halt to photograph the recent arrivals to the Valley. These were six BR 'Seacow' 40t Bogie Ballast Hoppers which once done up will be used by the Permanent Way teams to assist in the annual track relay and ballasting operations. I can say trip my trip was well worth it... Today's photos...
Garethp8873
This is the last lot of photos from me for now I promise... following a posting on Facebook, I learnt that GWR Large Prairie 4150 was to be moved out of it's place at the back of Bridgnorth Yard in preperation for movement to Bridgnorth. This also meant that a large amount of rolling stock that was in front of 4150 would have to moved out of way. Today was another very worthwhile trip. Whilst I didn't get a shot of 4150's boiler in the frames, I was able to get a shot as you can see of it secured on top of GWR Chaired Sleeper 40554. Along with this, I was able to get snaps of several other pieces that I have not been able to snap for a long time...
