Castle
Hi.... 'The King' was out today...managed to get a couple of reasonable shots....always good to see and hear 'his' majesty about! 102_1451 (3).JPG 102_1454 (2).JPG as we are about to 'cedec' the next area of the platform soon, also managed to find time to 'shunt the stone loco' into a new 'siding' in the garden 102_1469.JPG 102_1468.JPG Regards always Bob Hi Bob, What a shame you didn’t look in the cab - you would have found a tall, hairy, hat wearing thing doing owner’s representative duties in there that would have said hello to you! I’m in there again on Sunday on the King’s first trip of the day if anyone is around to say hello! I’m relenting to other, younger RMWEB Didcot Tour Guide types in the afternoon for a look round the engine shed museum as I haven’t seen it yet! All the best, Castle PS: No. 6023 (A.K.A. Spud II) was very pleased to contribute to the ballasting of your siding and if you want any more, you know where to look. It might still be a bit warm on Sunday evening though...

RMweb Premium Blandford1969 Posted May 4, 2018 RMweb Premium Share Posted May 4, 2018 (edited) We are blessed with a lovely railway, coaches, wagons, stations, volunteers and of course engines, however as you know the costs of keeping what we have going never goes down. For example we are spending at least 50K per year on rail alone. There are even bigger challenges ahead for us and I am hoping some of you may be able to help. Falling Sands viaduct is the first major structure and in short it now needs major restoration. Falling Sands Viaduct is a crucial part of the Severn Valley Railway, but this 141-year-old structure urgently needs extensive repairs. Water has seeped into the structure, causing it to crack and erode. If we don't act now, we may be forced to reduce the length of trains, or even face temporary or permanent closure of the line. Already there's a speed restriction in place across the viaduct. More than 250,000 people experience the joy of heritage rail travel at the SVR every year, and we want to make sure this continues long into the future. https://vimeo.com/266113052 We need to raise £275,000 before the end of 2018 – which in turn will help unlock a further £1 million from the Heritage Lottery Fund* – to carry out the necessary work. We're turning to supporters, visitors and railway enthusiasts, as well as local businesses and grant-making organisations to help us save this impressive piece of infrastructure, and by so doing, safeguard the SVR's future operational viability. Watch our film for more information If you can help we will all really appreciate your support. Edited May 4, 2018 by Blandford1969

Tug002
I was at Kidderminster on Thursday - just watching though, tickets were too expensive.Perhaps inspired by the 'Sheffield Wednesday' name on the 66,someone had scrawled 'Stoke City FC' in the dirt on the 37.On both sides.I took plenty on the camera but here are 20 phone snaps. Fantastic day, seeing locos I'd never seen before - 42,52,55,56 - and reacquainting myself with others (73).Also first time seeing a 4TC,plus a 66 on a passenger train. Longdog
Each to thier own, and I don't mind the occasional smelly box appearing, but to my eyes the infastructure and general setting of the Seven Vally just seems so wrong for all this moderen stuff.

Liam
That must be the first time that cattle van has turned a wheel in donkeys years. Considering there is an actual cattle dock at Highley, maybe one gala it would be fun to herd some sheep or cows through the dock, into the van and marshal it into one of the demonstrational goods trains. RMweb Premium Blandford1969 Posted June 14, 2018 RMweb Premium Share Posted June 14, 2018 As many of you will know we need to raise £275,000 by the end of October to then unlock a further 1 million pounds to enable the restoration of Falling Sands Viaduct. This structure being the first major one out of Kidderminster needs major work to allow trains to keep running info the future. Indeed one of the major challenges which goes unseen is our infrastructure/ We're making excellent progress, with more than £130,000 already secured, as thousands of supporters, visitors, railway enthusiasts and businesses sign up to add their name to our specially commissioned donation wall. We've also won the support of a number of grant-making organisations to help us save this impressive piece of infrastructure, and by so doing, safeguard the SVR's future operational viability. Will you join them, as one of the 'helping hands for Falling Sands'? Watch our film for more information. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wlD1YNqgNUg If you have already helped, thank you on behalf of all the volunteers and staff. For anyone who donates £50 or more your name will go onto our first memory wall, further details can be found here : https://www.svrtrust.org.uk/shopping.php?product=wall Thanks again from all of us Duncan
BobM
Hi.... Whilst this image is primarily of Taw Valley, bathed today in beautiful Arley sunshine whilst out on a charter today.....it also shows and is worth knowing that the station infrastructure has a little bit of history put back in place and has been enhanced by the addition of a splendid reproduction 'floral' chimney pot adorning the stack on the third bedroom, the original early 1900's pot accidentally broken nearly 20 years ago....the access scaffolding currently around the third bedroom chimney due to come down shortly... Our early Edwardian Arley station master George Batchellor was well known as a keen gardener and wished Arley to have the prettiest station gardens on the GWR, the addition of a highly distinctive and unique, floral pot back c1904 to his new bedroom was reputedly in recognition of this work and goal....( winning many awards for his station gardening work for nearly 10 years and then being banned from taking part due to his repeated success).....! It is great to think that due to stonemason Philip Chatfield's design work and creative artistry, along with Hampshire potter Mick Pinner who crafted the pot, this significant acknowledgement of George Batchellor and his station staff's love for Arley's appearance now is in its rightful place once more..... Well done Philip and Mick.... Regards always... Bob Edited June 14, 2018 by BobM

locoholic
Severn Valley Railway have just announced on Facebook that all trains will now be diesel-hauled due to the fire risk. Steam locos will be offering rides within station limits.
RMweb Premium Blandford1969 Posted July 9, 2018 RMweb Premium Share Posted July 9, 2018 Just to clarify a couple of points, Sunday saw despite the best work of crews and loco staff a number of line side fires. The railway took the decision it did not want to affect the neighbours and call on the fire brigade as it had to that day. Therefore diesels would work trains going forwards. At the moment the first time this will be reviewed will be 18th July. Our information says there will be steam rides, but only at Bewdley . Nothing has been said about any other station at the moment. Kind regards Duncan
andyram
Considering the ongoing hot weather this decision comes as no surprise and is the sensible option.
RMweb Premium Blandford1969 Posted July 11, 2018 RMweb Premium Share Posted July 11, 2018 By way of a quick update: It is planned footplate rides will operate at both Bridgnorth and Bewdley this weekend inside station limits. coachmann
Slightly off track, but how about the Llangollen line? I heard there was no steam at their recent Transport Gala. Fire risk?
Steamport Southport
Slightly off track, but how about the Llangollen line? I heard there was no steam at their recent Transport Gala. Fire risk? Yes. All steam services are suspended until further notice. It's the Classes 26 and 37 with DMUs. Although I believe the Class 26 has failed. I think the East Lancs have similar problems. Zomboid
I'd be surprised if it wasn't more widespread, with the weather lately I'd imagine lots of the countryside is highly flammable. Edited July 11, 2018 by Zomboid
Steamport Southport
The West Somerset are running steam as I was watching the Manor earlier. But I think if you're a diesel fan then it's a good opportunity to get some trips in outside of a gala. Jason
