Regards David As Gilbert says , no. 60503 is not suitable she retained the original diagram 106A boiler to the end . No . 60501 & 60502 are both possible as they have identical , to the eye , tenders & had diagram 118 boilers from the early 1950,s . They both retained the original crest until late 1958 but you will have to watch for the lowered no. plate & the lipped chimney. 60501 definitely had both features in mid . 1958 . Hi Ray Thank you for the information, that will certainly be a big help to me when it comes to ordering an A2/2, I am tending to go towards 60501 if the model when its produced is suitable for the 1958/1959 period. I have changed chimneys before on my models replacing existing plastic with white metal ones but it could be a problem if the smokebox number plate is in the wrong position and on a raised area on the smokebox door, I do not fancy pairing away with a scalpel knife but I do have a few spare A2 smokebox doors I purchased from Graeme King some time ago. Regards David I am sure you would be able to pare off the no. plate , preferably avoiding fingers , but the Graeme King door should fit fine if you prefer . Let me know if you buy one & which one you decide to do & I'll check through my photo. collection to let you know any other variations . I have a thing about the Thompson pacifics having seen many of them as a youngster at York & have a large collection of photo's of them . Hi Ray Thats very kind of you to offer, which I will gladly take up as and when the A2/2 Pacific's become available from Hornby. Thats a great idea regarding Graeme's smokebox doors and coincidentally I recently purchased two from him to detail up for my two Bachmann A2/3 conversions but never got around to fitting them, I will hold on now until Hornby release the A2/2's as they may come in handy. landscapes Posted February 11, 2020 Author Share Posted February 11, 2020 (edited) Good Evening Two photos taken tonight of A4 60012 Commonwealth of Australia at slightly different angles along with other Haymarket Pacific's, 60012 is ready to take the Elizabethan Express South. A bit more progress today, there are two lines running West in front of the coaling tower that form the two road coal sidings, these two lines were laid on a steep incline and stored coal wagons designated to replenish the coal tower. There is only a short section of about 250mm in length at the beginning of the incline constructed so far as most of the coal sidings are located on the next two layout boards yet to be constructed, this will be phase two of the project as and when I have the space to increase the layouts size Photos to follow. landscapes Posted February 12, 2020 Author Share Posted February 12, 2020 (edited) Evening Following my last post I have managed to photograph with great difficulty due to a lack of space the start of the coal wagon incline, this also give an idea of what the rear of the main shed building looks like and some of the smaller outbuilding to the rear of the layout. A view I don't think I have shown before. Also enclosed is a sketch indicating the overall size and rise of the two coal wagon storage roads this information is all taken from reference photos of the MPD in steam days, lucky for me I have a photo of Haymarket's J83's standing next to the end of the incline so I can get a good idea on how high it was, all dimensions are in millimetres. landscapes Posted February 19, 2020 Author Share Posted February 19, 2020 (edited) Hi I said earlier that my Hornby A4 60004 William Whitelaw had the wrong tender so I have changed the identity to 60028 Walter K Whigham which now has the correct tender fitted. 60028 was a regular on the Elizabethan and also the very first LNER Pacific I saw back in late 1962 just before it was withdrawn so I was very lucky to see it. Loco has been weathered except loco wheels and rods still to do. So I managed to finish off the weathering of the wheels, motion and chassis to newly renamed A4 60028 Walter K Whigham and here she is looking splendid on No 2 Road complete with the Queen of Scots Headboard waiting for a path to Waverley and then South to KX. landscapes Posted March 17, 2020 Author Share Posted March 17, 2020 Good evening i have just arrived back home after 3 weeks in Spain. from 11.00pm on Saturday just gone every bar, restaurant, shops and sports facilities was closed down. then on Monday morning the whole country went into total lockdown. For anyone not familiar with this you cannot leave your house for any reason other than a visit to either local supermarkets or Pharmacies there are police checks and you have to show proof of purchases to prove you only went out for provisions or it’s an instant fine if caught. If you do venture out you can only go alone two people walking together and you get an instant fine from the local police, same if you are driving a car only one person per car, we heard fines of 600 Euros was handed out for this but they were only rumours. streets totally empty of people and cars very strange end of the world feeling. By shear luck we were able to get seats on one of the few flights out of Murcia International Airport today. Very very happy and lucky to be home and hopefully now back into some railway modelling. My sister has lived in Spain for the last 17 years and under the total lockdown we could not visit her nor could she visit us, you are virtually a prisoner in your own home. In times like this it’s so important to have hobbies or interests you can do such as our hobby of model railways and even communicating with friends on RMweb is important as well. i do not want to be a prophet of doom but we may face a similar situation here in the UK in due course but hopefully not as draconian as the laws in Spain. I have just been told I must self isolate for 7 days as we have traveled back from a highly affected country and traveled through airports but lucky for me I have plenty to get in with and my wife has a very long list of jobs she wants doing. landscapes Posted March 24, 2020 Author Share Posted March 24, 2020 (edited) Good Evening Following a recent discussion on Tony Wright's Little Bytham thread regarding model railway photography I thought I would have a go at positioning the camera on the layout board itself to get a more close up image of the locomotives outside the main running shed. I am quite happy with the initial composition but not so keen on the photo quality, this is my first attempt and I have ordered a shutter release cable for the camera. So I am hoping that once I use the shutter cable the results hopefully will improve. These are both Hornby RTR A4’s but I did remove the single plastic chimney that came with 60012 and replaced it with a white metal one, if you look closely you can see a slightly different profile. I haven't got a shutter release cable but I find the self timer facility quite useful - my camera has a 20 seconds setting which gives you just long enough to get the camera in position, but then the shutter fires without you having to touch the camera, so avoiding camera shake. Hi 31A thank you for your reply and kind comments it’s the first time I have taken a photo at a low level angle and I do like the results so far and as I now have plenty of time I will try a few more photos with slightly different angles and locomotives. I did use the self timer when taking this photo and I have been informed my Shutter release cable has been posted that should help as well. The White metal double chimney for the A4 did take quite a bit of filing down but once I got the profile correct it fitted perfectly. I've got a similar conversion I want to do to a Hornby 60025 'Falcon', I got a double chimney from (I think) 247 Developments a long time ago and also some red-backed nameplates which this loco carried at one time and I thought would be something different.
