Nice Locos contemplating converting a Bachmann A2 into one at mo

Hi micklner

Thank you

The Bachmann A2 converts are very good but I would recommend getting a quote from PDK they are very competitive with their prices and the quality is very good, the only problem is I placed the order nine months ago as they are very busy so there is a wait to get the model back

Good Afternoon All

I thought I would take advantage of the hot sunny weather this morning by taking lott's more photos of some of Haymarkets resident locomotives and visiting locomotives.

Also as a big big tennis fan WELL DONE ANDY MURRAY.

David

Hi David,

What a fabulous collection of locos you have there! . . . . . and you're right ~~~ the rocks in the photos stir old memories of the backdrop at Waverley station in the days of steam.

Of course, the rocky backscene at Waverley still exists . . . it's just not the same with the absence of all of my old favourite steam locos standing in front of it!

. . . and if Andy Murray had travelled by train from Dunblane to London via the ECML he would have passed right by Haymarket as well as Waverley . . .

Jim.

Really appreciate the pic's David.

Waverley looks nice. Do you know what motor is employed?

Hi David

I have had a reply back from PDK Models, they fitted to 60509 Waverley a Mashima 1626 Flat Can Motor with a Markits 1846v Gearbox.

I did originally order A2/2 60506 Wolf of Badenoch from PDK but changed the order to an A2/1 at the last minute when I realised that she left Haymarket in the late forties or early fifties and I am modelling 1955 - 1962.

But I do like the A2/2.

Hi all

Another selection of Haymarkets locomotives, plus another one of those locos I just had to buy, the small 0-4-0 Pug, to my knowledge there was never one ever at Haymarket by my one carries a 64B shed plate,

Hi Peter

Thank you I am quite pleased with the way the Photos have come out.

I would love to say that I have or have use of a garden railway, but the fact is it's just using the camera on my IPad to create an illusion.

Some time ago I made an MDF stand to fit snug into a drawer unit that could house twelve pacific class locomotives.

It's a 720 x 430mm in 15mm thick MDF with six lengths of 600mm Peco track with added ballast and I made a weathered foot crossing out of Balsa Wood.

I just set it up on my garden table during the hot sunny period using my stone wall as a back drop to see how the photos would come out and I was pleasantly surprised with the final results..

I will include below two photos taken of a renumbered and renamed Bachmann A1 60161 North British showing a close up photo and the same photo taken again this time showing the whole table set giving the game away I suppose.

Regards

David

Good evening all

I have had a major set back regarding trying to make 60 roof lights to go into the transverse roof sections, my main problem is glueing the 1mm x 1.5 mm plastic sections and trying to insert them into the already cut out openings in the roof panels.

As I had already cut out and glued the roof slate strips to the roof panels there was no flexibility to adjust the openings if the windows do not fit, also getting all the plastic sections dead square and flat so I can glaze the backs using a fine plastic film was also causing problems so much so that I have decided to remake all 12 roof panels but this time I have had the roof lights made up by York ModelMaking Ltd.

I have also changed the size and design of the roof lights so they are larger 24mm x 60mm and reduced the number down to 40, also this time I will cut out the new opening once I have received the new roof lights from York ModelMaking to ensure they fit flat and square.

I have also found out that the time period I am modelling 1957-1962 most of the Haymarket main shed roof was now felt covered so I may omit the slate tile strips and paint the roof panels and add talcum powder to the wet paint to create a felted roof finish.

New photos to follow in due course.

Regards

David

Good morning all

The new roof panels are now all cut out and marked up showing the new positions for the larger roof lights which are being made by York ModelMaking Ltd, should be with me within the next week.

I have decided to create a felted roof look using grey paint with talcum powder added while the paint is still wet then they will be weathered accordingly.

This option will be much easier than the slated roof tiles which I did earlier and it will give me more scope when it comes to fitting the new roof lights, also I am learning from my mistakes so the new roof I hope will be a big improvement

Photo enclosed

Good Morning All

On Saturday the new purpose made roof lights that were made for me by York ModelMaking Ltd arrived in the post, what an improvement when I compare them to the efforts I tried to make myself.

Also they fit into the roof panels perfectly, very please with them.

My next decision is do I spray paint then in situ then glaze them afterwards or do I spray the roof lights apply acetate backing for the glazing then fit them into the roof panel, a tricky one.

Anyway photo enclosed showing revised roof work done to date.

Now on a different subject I am getting very nervous as the North London Derby approaches, I hope the new look Spurs have a good win and then Andy Murray playing afterwards can I take any more excitement in one day.

Regards

David

David,

The roof is looking superb, what a good idea to use York Model making for the skylights. I have seen their stand a few times at shows where they have a great range of quality products.

Keep up the good work.

Ian H

PS:am busy at moment relaying tracks on my Haymarket Cross layout after a bit of a disaster with storage, I stored the layout boards on their ends and on one board it lifted some of the tracks at the end of the board. I will be putting some pics on my thread shortly.

Hi Ian

Sorry to hear about the mishap with your Haymarket Cross layout and I look forward to seeing it up and running very soon.

Agree totally with you on York ModelMaking they are not cheap but the quality of their work speaks for it's self, I am very pleased with the roof lights and most are now fitted, it made life very easy for me and in my opinion makes the shed building look much better now, I will post some pictures when all the roof panels are completed.

Look forward to seeing you pictures in due course.

Regards

David

Hi Peter

Certainly nothing to laugh at, I have just had a look at your thread and your layout is looking very good and coming on a treat, nice positioning of your turntable and coaling tower as well.

The only thing I would say is from the photos I cannot see how you intend to finish of the main shed roof.

I found my training in building surveying and draughtsmanship came in very usefull when it came to planning the initial drawings for the Haymarket main shed building.

If you run into any problems I would be more than happy to help if you need any information.

I look forward to following your progress on your Waverley shed layout.

Regards

David

Hi David, The positioning of both was purely coincidental, but probably prototypical - both needed width and there was only 20" on the original layout, so they went to opposite ends!

WIth this one I've added about a foot of width as well as another 2 feet of length overall due to its new home so it has space to breathe. The theory behind the walling is to have a high back scene - like the views you see at St. Margaret's of the 'closies' over the turntable.

I've had a go at reproducing one of these using EZ draw and uploaded a screen grab - problem is that it's two dimensional, unlike the Faller walling!

I'ma bit reluctant to try and build one of those from scratch!
