Heljan 7mm Wagons

The tank does not have the pipes sticking out the end Howard as most of these did not have them. As with the loco's it is one molding to suit all variations I'm afraid. There will be round logo plate as on this one for Regent and an oval plate for Esso.

Thanks - I have, although it's still had to judge the unpainted model, I don't think the doors project far enough.

Brian, is there any chance you could take and post a side-on picture of the open, please?

I think that the age of the wagon may be influencing this, the metalwork has eased and the sides moved out. This one is new http://PaulBartlett.zenfolio.com/broaa/e104a5613

and the sides appear to be close to being flush - the model also appears to have a slight difference between cantrail and sides.

As mentioned by others, I don't like the grooves on the tank barrel - they should be raised welding lines. http://PaulBartlett.zenfolio.com/essoatankwagonvb/e2864d696

Nice to see they are doing the Regent tank, makes a change.

Hi Brian,

Great job as always!

In relation to the tanks, am I correct in thinking that grey ones were/are used for diesel loco fuel?

Rich.

Grey ones were meant for Class A products like petrol and were a longer barrel than the one here. But having said that I am sure I have seen them in their later life on fuel points with diesel in. Heljan will not be doing a grey long barreled one, well not yet but if these sell like hot cakes who knows. Heljan are doing a plain black one that was used in fuel points in the 70's.

Just out of interest, you have painted these - is that simply because they are pre-production models, and will the final versions that appear for sale be "finished" with nothing but weathering if you want it left to do?

Yes that's right. These arrived in a fetching dark green so it would be rude not to paint them even if there are a couple of little things still to change. Looking at the OAA there are holes in the top corners of the doors for the securing chains still to go in I would think. So long as they are not so big that you could tie up the Queen Mary with them! I can't remember for the life of me if they are going to have numbers on or a sheet inside for you to choose a couple of numbers.

Thanks for posting the photos of the painted samples Brian, the van looks really good.

On the open, though, it looks to me like something isn't quite right with the area below the doors (is it a rave?  I'm not sure), it looks to be too deep when comparing with this picture from Paul Bartlett's site:

The other thing that makes me think there's a minor discrepancy in this area are the brackets below the hinges - they look a little too square on the model compare to the photo.  It's only minor though, overall it looks pretty good.

I have issues with the VAA roof. The way the end of the roof is modelled to join the end is far too heavy, and I'm not convinced that the roof ribs are anything like so noticeable on the prototype. http://PaulBartlett.zenfolio.com/brvaa/e296cec56

Is the profile accurate, it looks a bit too high but that may well be an optical effect.
