mp55aec
I think it is a tunnel, entered through an avalanche shelter - but never having been to Finse, I may be wrong! If you see a train approaching the tunnel isnt that long about 30meters at most, might be snow or maybe to lull noise of pulling away of heavy braking as the building on the left is a hotel? Of interest Finse has no road access at all , everything for the hotel is unloaded off one of the passing container trains,,must try an see one day, it also houses a railway museum dedicated to the navvies who built the Bergen line.

Yes you're absolutely right, when it wasn't obscured by the weather, I watched an El18 pass through the tunnel and out the other end . Blue sky today, and the platform puddles have almost dried up! Gordonwis
Dam wish had seen it,,,not sure if the Cargonet class66's are used on this line or the Norland beyond the arctic circle, Freights on the Bergen line are generally electric hauled. AFAIK EL14s are still the main locos, certainly were in 2008 when I visited Bergen what are the sheds over the mainline for? They don't seem to be tunnels... Ben A. I assume you are looking at Finse Tunnel, opened in 1993 to divert the railway under its most exposed and snow-prone section. http://en.wikipedia....ki/Finse_Tunnel Edited September 25, 2012 by Gordonwis

SwissRailPassion
What a find! A friend of mine used to live in rural Norway and the arrival of the train was always a big event. He was mown down in the street by an old lady on a zimmer frame with skis attached. Is there much freight on the line?
mp55aec
Freight tends to be at night, there is a freight that stops at Finse to unload the stock for the resort to "live" remember this has no road link.
