I made up some flatter tarp covers based on some photos on the Swanage branch. They are card with paper tarps folded over the corners. I've had to skimp on the depth of the tarp to make it easier to put on and take off. I tried aluminium can folded but it warped all over and would need stamping to texture it and keep its shape as it kept twisting up at one corner.

When they are unloaded it reveals a folded tarp awaiting use on the floor. I just need to add a bit of weathering.

I like it, especially as you stuck to SouthWest Trains. But you might upset some Swanage preservation people... ;)

Isn't it fun how life imitates our little reality ;)

Well the sausages arrived early :) Well it was actually bacon and we were looked after extremely well by the Mendip show :)

I must say that the idea of different periods and changing subtle items on the layout to reflect the timeframe is very clever. Although I am interested in the D&E period, I think the BR ex Southern steam era suits Lulworth Castle the most. Well done Paul, hope you had a good Exhibition.

Cheers Nigel, yes we had fun and the cake was excellent ;)

The main design was always for this period but with enough flexibility to run the other stuff in the collection.

With my eclectic interests it's a much better solution than another 4-5 layouts ;)

I found this thread by chance a couple of days ago and have thoroughly enjoyed catching up with its development. I do like the flexible timeframe element - something I considered trying on a previous project myself. Purbeck is also a big draw for me! I’m not sure if I’ll be able to get to Warley this year, but if I do, I’ll definitely be looking out for Lulworth Castle there.

I've had issues with the smaller magnets being too limited in field and making uncoupling a bit of a trial. I went back to tension lock couplers at the Mendip show but I'd always intended sorting it out so I could use the kadees again. So I needed a bigger hole, I looked at the Rapido electric ones but felt trying to use a holesaw over the existing hole was going to end badly so I'm going back to 308 magnets on drop flaps so they don't attract the steel axles all the time.

I cut a block so my easycut would only cut 8mm into the 9mm ply so I don't rip through the track.

One hole opened out, 5 more to go . . .

Thanks, with the weathering it's just a case of building slowly and I still need a bit more clay dust on it ;)

Lulworth Castle is stand C4 at the Warley show next month right by the 15" gauge Romney display.

All six magnet sets replaced with the larger kadee magnets. Minor flesh wound from the cobalt point wire while being careful with the mini chainsaw and chisel!

The easycut lived up to its name making this in a confined space nice and easy with just the block to limit the depth.

Hi Paul, Ive tried the thinner wine bottle foils and they seem to work ok, hold their shape and look ok once painted up appropriately......hic!  Some of the prosecco ones are textured and Ive used them as cobbles and grating depending on the texture shape elsewhere on the layout......
