After being postponed a couple of times last year, we are pleased to say it looks like the Class 20 Metropolitan Railtour will take place on the 29th April 2018, with haulage being provided by 20142 and 20227, both in London Transport red livery hauling the newly refurbished London Transport TC coaching set.

 

The route for the tour organised by The London Transport Museum Heritage is subject to final confirmation will cover Metropolitan and Chiltern lines from Marylebone Station in Central London, up in to Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire. Full booking details and pricing to follow soon.

The 4TC will be visiting the Swanage Railway Diesel Gala, which is 11-13 May. Details will appear on http://www.swanagerailway.co.uk/events/detail/diesel-gala-2018

 

To get it to/from Swanage their will be a couple of Railtours. They are:

Tickets are £65 for standard or £75 for first.

 

Locos are 20142, 20227 & 33012. The 20s will be at the South end of the train.

 

Route outward: Wembley Park - Quainton Road. Return: Quainton Road - Harrow-on-the-Hill - Marylebone (rev) - West Ruislip.

Family Summer Steam – 12 and 13 May

On the weekend of the 12 and 13 May, London Transport Museum is joining EOR in celebrating its long association with the Underground and London Transport, with two days of heritage train rides, family activities and lots of fun.

Take a ride in coaches pulled by our Metropolitan Steam Locomotive No. 1, and see some of our heritage buses on display. Visit the Museum team in the marquee at North Weald station to enjoy creative activities for families. Get crafty and design your own London Transport logo badge as a memento of your day.

 

A carefully curated selection of London Transport Museum gifts and products will also be available for sale over the weekend including Underground themed books, toys and exclusive models.

 

Tickets (which include free heritage bus rides between Epping Underground station and the heritage steam rail service at North Weald station):

Adult all day Rover - £15.00

Child (3 – 15yrs) all day Rover - £7.00

Family (2 adults and up to 3 children) - £38.00

Heritage bus rides

The first heritage bus for North Weald station leaves Epping Underground station at 09:45 and then approximately every half hour until the last bus at 16:15.

Return buses from North Weald station to Epping Underground station start at 10:10 and continue approximately every half hour until the last bus leaves North Weald at 16:35.

Entry at North Weald station is from 09:30

 

Also with the arrival of Austerity 0-6-0ST Lord Phil, EOR's loco roster has changed.

The latest Heritage Railway Magazine states that due to the work being carried out on Sarah Siddons, Steam On The District has been postponed (again) to next year. It'll probably take place in February or March.

According to this post on National Preservation forum some of Bluebell's Chesham set is due back in service during the Branch Line Weekend on 19 & 20 May. The exact carriages are TBC. The Metropolitan set is being given a bit of TLC including, I understand, conversion of the vacuum brake cylinders to the same type as on Mk 1 coaches. I think the plan is for 1 or 2 to be available for Branch Line Gala with the others following over the rest of 2018.
