Met 1, Steam on the London Underground & related events

Yesterday Met 1, the milk van, carriage 353 and L150 ran from Ruislip Depot to the LTM Acton Depot.

 

I assume that Met 1 & L150 will leave there by road to wherever they are going to next (AFAIK Epping for Met 1, not sure for L150).

Met 1 is going to Barry Tourist Railway for the next two weekends. On Sunday 24th and Monday 25th August it will run between between Barry Island and Woodham Halt. On Saturday 30th & 31st August It will run top and tailed on the Gatwick Express Set with Class 73 73118 between Barry Island and Waterfront.

Slight change for rolling stock at Barry Island this weekend. Saturday is Met 1 topping and tailing the Gatwick Express Set with the 73, while on Sunday Met 1 is hauling the DMU. All services run between Waterfront and Barry Island.

Info on Buckinghamshire Railway Centre's Enthusiasts Day, which is on Sunday October 5, from the Steam Railway Facebook Page.

The Buckinghamshire Railway Centre is to steam as many of its home fleet as possible for its ‘Enthusiasts Day’ on Sunday October 5, for parallel running on its two demonstration lines, and the chance to drive one for just £10.
Up to six engines will be drawn from the home fleet as follows:

- Metropolitan Railway 0-4-4T No. 1 (paired with Metropolitan ‘Dreadnought’ coach)
- LSWR Beattie 2-4-0WT No. 30585
- Hudswell Clarke 0-4-0ST W/No. 1742 Millom
- Bagnall 0-4-0ST W/No. 2469 ‘Scott’
- Peckett 0-4-0STs W/Nos. 2087 ‘Gibraltar’ and 2105 ‘Rokeby’
- Andrew Barclay 0-4-0ST W/No. 699 ‘Swanscombe’

They will haul passenger trains on the up and down side running lines, including the opportunity for rides in open wagons, and with parallel running where possible. ‘Driver for a Tenner’ will be available with tickets bought on the day.
As well as the Travelling Post Office coaches, the visitor centre cinema coach will be open for a series of 45-minute talks by volunteers, starting each hour between 11.30 and 15.30.
TPO Group member Cyril Parsons will give two talks on ‘The Links between Royal Mail and the Railways’ and ‘London’s Best-Kept Secret – the Post Office Underground Railway’. Local railway author Bill Simpson will present ‘The Brill Tramway’ and ‘Verney Junction – Beyond Metroland’, and Quainton Railway Society members Keith and Sheila Lobley will show a series of photographs depicting ‘A Year in the Life of the BRC’.

In other Met 1 news it has arrived at Epping.

According to the latest issue of Railway Magazine, Steam On The Underground will return in July. IIRC it was stated that the trains will run on the Watford branch and between Ealing Broadway and High Street Kensington.

According to Rail.co.uk GWR no. 9466 could be in use on 'Steam on the Underground' events from 2016 http://www.rail.co.uk/rail-news/2015/gwr-expand-2015/

Met 1 is back at Buckinghamshire Railway Centre and will be in use at the gala on 3rd & 4th May. Other locos in use are:

  • Hunslet no. 3890 - first public steaming in preservation
  • London & South Western Railway no. 30585
  • Andrew Barclay no. 699
  • Bagnall no. 2469
  • Hudswell Clarke no. 1742 - on driver for a tenner
  • Pecket no. 2087
  • Pecket no. 2105

The latest Heritage Railway magazine states that the Steam On The Underground runs will not happen in July. The Metropolitan Line runs are hoped to run on 12 & 13 September. The District Line runs are likely to be postponed to 2016.

According to the latest Heritage Railway mag, each day of Steam On The Met on 12 & 13 September will be formed of:
1 x Harrow - Chesham - Watford
2 x Watford - Chesham - Watford
1 x Watford - Chesham - Harrow
