spagnoletti40
I vaguely recall that the Bulmer Cider Train of red/white/green Pullmans, when used on the main line, had a special gangway shield on the rear coach signwritten with something like 'Now Drink Bulmer's Cider'. Does anyone have any details or photographs of this feature?
lonesome_whistle
No date but I'm sure the general appearance of the 'onlookers' may help with that..
spagnoletti40
Many thanks, Lonesome. Exactly what I was looking for! A little bit of Photoshopping should get that down to 4mm scale nicely.
johnd
There is a picture of the train in colour in the current Model Rail magazine. I remember it at Manchester Victoria with the Flying Scotsman as the motive power.
spagnoletti40
The Model Rail caption slightly simplifies the situation by suggesting that repainted Hornby Pullmans could be used. That is true for four of the Bulmer coaches but the fifth, 'Aquila', as shown in Lonesome's photograph above, was one of the 1951 Golden Arrow U-type cars, which are not commercially modelled. Railway Modeller June 2011 suggested that such cars could be modelled by grafting a scratch-modified Hornby 1st Kitchen onto a Gresley chassis. My own approach is to 'cut and shut' two Hornby Dublo / Wrenn bodies to bring them up to scale length.
