RMweb Premium Temeraire Posted April 5, 2014 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted April 5, 2014 Evening all Spent half the day underneath Lion changing brake blocks (again!) while a team of mainly youngsters washed and polished the bodysides, all in preparation for the first diesel running day of the year on Saturday 26th April. Late afternoon saw '27 head out down to Alresford on it's first run since Christmas to shunt the stock for this evenings Belle dining train and the Real Ale train as well as bed in the new blocks. 50027 runs into the platform with the RAT stock during the shunting operations. Also involved at Alresford was Slug 37905 seen in the platform at Alresford in the rain. 50027 about to run into the yard at Ropley leaving the RAT stock in the platform to be collected by one of the steamy things. This view shows off the good work by the cleaning team today, as it was filthy this morning (or should that be heavily weathered?!)
RJS1977
If Liverpool Museum ever get their loco going again, perhaps you could have a "Lion" festival with the L&M 0-4-2, ex-Guinness 08 and the Class 50! Just realised that if you did that you could sell T-shirts with pictures of all three locos on - "Three Lions on My Shirt!"
Lord Flashheart
I remember doing those tasks and many others up at the nymr, all good fun and keep up the good work looking after her.

andy50027
Quick update. Delighted to be able to announce that the owners of 31 466 have also accepted our invitation....so we are now expecting to be able to run....50 027; 40 145; 37 905; 37 901; 37 324; 31 466; 31 271; 24 081; 08 377; 08 032The 11 is currently having power unit work (fingers and toes crossed it will be ready too)Timetable much as last year (still being finalised though). There will be three sets operating full length of the line. One of these will be the real ale train. Loco swaps will take place at Ropley. For anyone who hasn't watched this operation from the vantage point of the picnic site overlooking the yard...you've missed a treat. Locos not in use will be in the yard available for photos etc between trains. This year the plan is to operate brake van rides at both Alton and Alresford, touring all the unusual places not normally reached. For those enjoying 08 haulage the first up from Alresford should be hauled by the two 08s which will then take a brake van special from Ropley back to Alresford before operating the rides for the rest of the day (these will use one of the two 08s only). The DEMU (Hammy) will operate Alresford Ropley shuttles throughout the day.Trade and group stands will be mostly at Ropley and there will be a model railway (all diesel) display in the goods shed at Alresford.Late evening running on Saturday with the RAT being one of two sets out and about.Hope you can join us for another (fingers crossed) fantastic gala. andy50027
Sadly due to issues beyond our control, 40145 is unable to attend. The 40s diagrams will be covered by 37905. Thanks go to the CFPS for their efforts in trying to sort the paperwork issues out and thanks also to West Coast for providing a replacement 57 to move the convoy. andy50027
I suggested a mini gala a while back but nothing has been mentioned of it since so I guess it's back to Lion only this Sunday.

andy50027
Discussed yesterday and have provisionally allocated 37324 to the unallocated class 37 working on September 12th. Sadly it is becoming a case of use it or lose it for diesel running now. Relatively poor turn outs for class 37 & 50 running combined with a huge diesel gala loss have been noted up above sadly. If people want running days and galas we need to show they can pay. Over to you.....

If you can make it please come along and support diesel running on the MidHants as its a case of use it or lose it!

andy50027
Info in today: The line up for the MHR 2016 Diesel Weekend will be as follows: Class 08: 08377 Home fleet Class 11: 12049 (12082) Home fleet Class 50: 50027 "Lion" Home fleet Class 33: 33053 Returning to the railway to become part of the home Fleet. Class 37: 37905 Courtesy of UK Rail Leasing Class 56: 56006 Courtesy of Class 56 Group Class 56: 56081 Courtesy of UK Rail Leasing Class 205: DEMU 1125 Home fleet It is hoped that 37901 will still be on the railway for the event, and if so this will be the last opportunity to travel behind it for the foreseeable future, before starting with COLAS rail. 37324 (37099) will almost certainly have departed by then. I can only apologise for the delay in announcing the line up for this weekend. Believe me, getting to this point has been just as frustrating from this side of the fence. The loss of the 37's from the line and also several big locos first being available and then dropping out has made it a very long and drawn out process. We still felt that it was better to wait until we were sure of a line up, rather than build up expectation and then disappoint. Damned if you do, damned if you don't. Given the difficulties of arranging and announcing the line up, the ticket prices have been dropped from a Gala price to a Standard Travel price ticket. Thank you for your patience.
