craig449
I would like to put sound in my Hornby L1 but who does the best sound or can I cheat and use a new SWD BR Fairburn sound
Ed-farms
Howes do a Generic L1 sound chip. Whilst it would not be perfect (obviously no L1 around to record) it will have a whistle that is right and the chuffs should be in sync with the wheels so I would go for that one. pauliebanger
Alternatively, you could ask Digitrains for a Zimo with my 'generic' L1, and save yourself about £40 against the previous suggestion. (Use that to buy a smoke unit and some working loco lamps, Haha). It features the light engine/heavy train sound switching on the move that all my Zimo steam projects are equipped with. Unfortunately, I don't have a video and no longer have the loco. NB. It's not listed on their site, but if you ask, they will supply it. Kind regards, Paul
silverlink
Hi, I fitted sound to an L1 about 18 months ago and somewhere on here I think I mentioned it (possibly under Hornby L1) I used a Loksound decoder which I purchased from Olivias Trains in Sheffield very good it is too. I have fitted one or two for friends at my club and all are working fine. Bit of a job to fit mind, the decoder is stuck on the inside of one the the tank sides with the speaker sat under the coal bunker which has to be opened up. I also lowered the 8 pin socked & removed about 2mm from speaker housing to get it to fit. Cheers Ian
