RMweb Premium Alex TM Posted May 5, 2020 RMweb Premium Share Posted May 5, 2020 Hi folks, My wife and I are in the privileged position of being able to get out for a decent walk each day; one of those walks is around the nearby golf course. One day last week we passed a young dad who was out with his young daughter (around 3-years of age), and trying to keep her suitably amused; they were sat in the bunker at the 18th, and building sand-castles. It brought a smile to the faces not just of the two of us, but to the others who were passing by too. [The local golf club have a fairly relaxed view of folk using the course for walks, but then again most folk are respectful in how they behave when crossing fairways, etc. It's also been good for security.] Regards, Alex.

I would say be careful. When we were younger we would regularly have a go on the local golf course when it was closed. Only got caught once and the groundsman said "Nah! You're alright lads as long as you disappear before the golfers turn up and don't do any damage" Jason
RMweb Premium Alex TM Posted May 5, 2020 RMweb Premium Share Posted May 5, 2020 It's the folk that run the course/club that are 'approving'; so far their only complaint has been that they and we may walk the course but not play a round. Once the course re-opens, the paths and roads around it's edges get 'interesting'!

gordon s
Our club had a relaxed view about people walking the course, but as always a few spoiled it for everyone and they have had to close access. Dog walkers who allowed their dogs to poo on fairways and didn’t pick it up afterwards, youngsters playing football on both fairways and greens and the final straw was a group who thought it would be a great place for a barbecue........ As always a few thoughtless people spoil the potential pleasure of many...... Edited May 6, 2020 by gordon s 7
RMweb Gold Joseph_Pestell Posted May 5, 2020 RMweb Gold Share Posted May 5, 2020 Where we lived at Newbury, the local club was very good about access for dog walkers. As a former player, I was always very careful to keep the dog under control and away from playing areas. It was a pleasure though to cut across the course on a shortcut to the pub when the course was closed due to a heavy snowfall. Until the dog found a bunker and disappeared...
luckymucklebackit
As a resident of Troon, it can prove difficult to go for a walk without going on one of the many golf courses. Currently as long as you stay off the greens nobody worries. Jim 4

You should always look out for them when swimming. Should you see one you must immediately shout 'Look out, there are llamas!' Les 3
