I saw this CSX slug (the trailing unit, converted from a GP30) when I was in northern Kentucky (2007),  interestingly the train is in Ohio:

Its a US (==bigger) version of a British Railways Class 13!

Not exactly as the class 13 was two permanently coupled, MU fitted, fully working 08s with the cab of the slave removed.

The slugs in the US don't normally have engines, although some still have driving cabs

Something that made me smile earlier this evening

The sound of persimmon upon gutta-percha......................

Although more accurately, steel upon thermoplastic.

FORE!

The 13s would be referred to as a 'cow and calf' in the USA.

Paul.

One RR somewhere out west had a herd; a cow, calf, calf. That had to be an interesting sight.

It might not be everyone's cup of tea. But yesterday we went on a family walk, not very far from the house, taking advantage of the slight relaxed lockdown rules. About halfway we sat down on a bit of limestone pavement. With a panaramic view of the lake District fells, the Yorkshire dales and Morecambe bay. And to top things off we were surrounded by skylarks singing. You could forget about germagedon. At least for a while.

Today I received a letter from my bank (Lloyds) personally addressed to me inviting me to register for internet banking.

Fine, except I have been using internet banking for years.

Nice to know those expensive IT systems they have are working well.:jester:

ust warming up the tyres . . .

This reminds me of something I saw in Engineering magazine, a number of years ago. Iirc it was an electric loco in India, stopped on a slight gradient, without brakes applied for a fair amount of time. The driving wheels slowly rotating in the same spot, melted half way through the track.

Can't say I'm surprised given my dealings with various aspects of Lloyd's as club treasurer. Nobody believed how bad it was until someone else took over and tried dealing with them.

The frontline staff were great but the systems they had to deal with..........

Inept is an inordinate kindness.

I've heard of cars sinking into the road on hot days, but that's just ridiculous!

I believe it was part of a lash up parked up and someone broke in and started one of the locos so it sat there grinding away with the train stationary.
