Popular Post kevpeo
One advantage of being 'confined to barracks' is I'm getting quite a bit done! As I had the time I thought I would erect Parrot Hall from its slumbers and do a couple of fixes, mainly O/H mods and touching up. But as it was up it seemed to be a good place to phot the first 305 car with sides on - It is slow going though. By the time all the door hinges are soldered in, and the excess solder cleaned up and body sides prepared, I'm managing a side a day! Still no rush, as all the model shows are cancelled for the foreseeable! Of course, the real reason for setting the layout up was for a test run of this - Filmed on my phone so not the best, but it records sound better than my camera. So far so good, with only a couple of minor bits of damage to repair and one warped piece of bodyside to try and straighten on the other side. 20

JackB95
I say that 323 looks rather snazzy! Sounds superb too!
kevpeo
All Bif's doing on the sound front Jack! Coach two, the MBS now 'sided' - The two driving cars have also now got one side each too. Progress is accelerating! Kev.
Grampus
Loved the vid of the 323; very impressive indeed. I also enjoyed the guard's whistle at the start - raised a welcome chuckle as I sit here , tapping away. Thank you. Best wishes and stay safe, Paul
Popular Post kevpeo
And then there were four! A welcome milestone, no more hinges! Next up, detail the underframes and fill & clean up the bodies before a coat of primer. It is much easier to mark up the bodies with a waft of primer on. kevpeo
Progress is continuing at a good pace - It turned out that the kit instructions are mostly a work of fiction as far as the underframe goes. I was able to use the air tanks, some small box castings and one box front etch, the rest had to be modified or fabricated. A good job I took some photo's back in the day! A delivery also arrived from fox, the 305 transfers and something else! - The top two sheets are to go with this kit which has also arrived - A Bratchell 319/1, to be converted to a 325. Yes Donny Rovers at last! The black plastic is a new chassis under construction for the motor car pictured. This will use the Bachmann 158 mech left over from the 323 built. What do you mean it looks like it was planned! Kev. 12
kevpeo
While bits of the 305 are setting some more tinkering with the 325 - The new PMS mechanism assembled, now just needs oiling up and wires connected ready for its first test. Behind is a chassis as supplied; this was used to set the correct height. Behind both of these is the first body shell assembled, again the PMS, just to get a feel for the technique and fit before the other three are started. Jack374
Nice work Kev, I’ll be following the 325 build with interest as I’ve got 4x Bachmann 150s to make 2x 325s from. If we string them all together it’ll be a nice 12-car rake as seen daily on the WCML! Thanks, Jack.

Hornby Networker ends or something else?
kevpeo
Yep, Hornby Networker ends, kindly donated by Donny Rovers some time ago. Hence all the digs! Kev. 1

MRDBLUE17
Hi Kev, Seriously good progress with the units and I’m amazed to see a 325 started as well as I thought it was all just banter lol! You know it will great hauled by my 66 up the WHL. I must remember to get that bus to you once the borders reopen! Hope you are all well Mark
kevpeo
Cheers Mark, all is well here apart from being furloughed! Although being paid 80% wages to built EMU's isn't all bad! I will keep the 325 well away from 66's when finished! All the best. Kev.
kevpeo
Well I'm glad thats over - Thats a lot of vents, and I'm sorry to say the instructions were a work of fiction on these too! It took many hours pouring over pictures to work out where they went! I'm still not convinced its 100%, but you have to stop at some point! And after all that, my eyes are no longer up to threading handrail knobs for the water pipes either, even with a magnifier! More news on the 325 tomorrow maybe. Popular Post kevpeo
Whisper it quietly, but the 305 is nearly finished! Underframes, roof and inner end details are done, with just the two cab fronts to finish - Just the handrails to drill out for now, buffers can stay off until painting is complete. Meanwhile, bravado got the better of me with the 325! I read all the previous threads on doing one, and didn't like the amount of filler to blend the Networker front with the Mk3 body. So I thought, I can do better, why not use the networker doors instead, as the profile widens the further back you go. So the cab was cut so - The door was too narrow, so this was widened to match the 319 one and do you know what, it worked brilliantly, the profiles were almost a perfect match. But it looked nothing like a 325! So it was back to plan A and filler! - You can see the step in front of the re-attached drivers door, which is where the filler needs to go. And this is progress so far - All the bodies and bogies are now assembled, so the next step is to add the last cab and sort out the stretchers that hold the chassis's in and level. The motor coach has also had it's gangways removed and filled as a trial for the other three. Kev. 19
donny rovers
looking good but a 365 would be better lol
kevpeo
And then there were four, part two! Not the best photo but it shows the first time all four 325 cars have been assembled. Couplings to sort out next. Most of the underframe detail is also sorted. You will not be suprised to find out that 325 underframes are not all the same as 319's! MRDBLUE17
Hi Kev, Nice progress with the units. The 305 looks great but I’m very interested to see the 325 progress so quickly already. Cheers Mark
kevpeo
The Bratchell 319 kit is very easy to put together quickly Mark. It's the mods to turn it into a 325 that will take the time! Kev.
kevpeo
The 305 is now ready for its pre 'paint job' bath. The last bit of fabrication, seats, lots of them - Not much to show for a days work! The 325 has been left alone today to let the glue joints harden but last night I did a practice run on window filling - Three pieces of plasticard for each window, one behind and two to fill, I may be some time! kevpeo
As a treat to myself on reaching the halfway mark with window filling, I gave myself a break and had a play with the buffer beam area - Turns out there are a lot of subtle curves to produce! No filler on yet but she's starting to look the part, the buffers, 22" Oleo from Inter-City models are just loosely pushed in for now. All the buffer beam and obstacle deflector area are part of the chassis, while the side fairings are part of the body. So painting should be much easier, but back to windows tomorrow!
