With all the 319's windows 'blanked' and the sun shining it was time to head to the patio and rub them all flat -

325.jpg.b43b0d016690eb993b9f1ceef5148fd3.jpg

Shown just done, I've now added the first pass of filler.

I cannot touch the 305 as I'm waiting for the first coat of paint to harden before masking for the yellow ends.  I was surprised to find I bought the 305 kit in June 2018!  So it will be nigh on two years by the time its finished.  Mind, it was leapfrogged by the 303 and 323 in that time!  I've also ordered the sound decoders for the 305 and 325 from Bif.  He just has to finish the 325 one first.  Not much call apparently! Kev.

With the side windows going surprisingly well, I pressed on with removing 319 details and adding 325 ones.  So far, three roof vents removed and three added in different places, cab windows opened out, Gangway 'non door' strengtheners added, shore supply point cuts out added to the PC, 319 toilet roof tank hatch removed and the side grills added to the driving cars -

Oh, and I had a go at adding the main doors to the PC -

While the real things are roller doors, the 'slats' are so fine as to be practically not visible in most photos!  So do I go over scale or plain?  If PH's etches were available I probably would have gone for those, but who knows how long this lockdowns going to last, and he and his etchers are both 'offline', so I went with plain!  So, still to do, the rest of the main doors, 'blue lights' and local door release buttons. Kev.

How about printing up some fine 'grey' lines on some clear decal paper at home and applying them to the doors once painted. The printer will use dithered black to make grey and they will be transparent and give the illusion of darker body colour stripes which will represent the shutters.

What a cracking idea RBE.  Why do I never have good ideas like that!  I don’t think my printer would be up to that, but I know a man who dabbles in transfers, yes I'm looking at you Donny Rovers!

In other news, the 305 now has yellow ends, painted roofs and bogies, and I’m currently painting seats. Boring! Kev.

Kev - printed grilles can work - I made my own for my yellow DVTs. (In the avatar and see below))

I also use Evergreen 4031 for grilles and roller doors - such as on my courier van for steam support coach.

Not the best pic....

And a decal grille.

That Evergreen sheet looks a lot closer than anything I have Mick.  I must get some of that for future use! Looking at them both, I think your transfer grill is closer to what I'm after. Cheers, Kev.

As the 305 comes out of the painting/transfers stage, the 325 is washed and ready to enter it -

drying out ready for yellow primer tomorrow. The 305 is now ready for handrails and door furniture to go on. So that should keep me busy for a few days! Both motor cars have been decoder fitted and tested. The 325 one with its home made drive shafts is not the quietest yet, but hopefully should be better with the body on and a blt of running undertaken. Kev.

A 305/1 to be finished in blue stripe “ex NSE” . Once again excellent service from Dave at Southern Pride. I’m not going to start it yet though! Kev.

What do we reckon Donny?3AFFDBA9-AA71-4D20-BB90-84A759EE391C.jpeg.4316b8e958573dfcfe8e3b8a6eb44f20.jpeg

not fully dry yet but looking good. This was the lighter of the two sheets you did. Dark enough I reckon!

edit - That was as close together as my 'puter would go. Looking at it on the screen it looks as though finer would be better!  Looks better in the flesh. Kev.

I've only just caught up with this thread, not sure how I'd missed it - some excellent modelling, especially the 323 and 325. If I had a suitable layout, I'd love a 323, very nice looking units I think. What a great job you made of it, I'm tempted to have a go at one for the sake of it but not sure my skills are quite at the right level!

Thanks JDW, I should be cracking on with the other side of the 325 but I'm struggling to get motivated today!

So, instead, being stuck in the covid-19 capital of the UK (anybody seen the Daily Mail article? What a crock!) I cracked on with the next two projects!  After a delivery from Replica Railways, I assembled the next set of class 305 running gear -

1707250626_305-1bogies.JPG.38eaeff54c070de4540c8ba4af9e93b2.JPG

Along with the powered chassis for the 305 I got another, plus four Mk1 kits, for a future project!

1291929797_309tobe.JPG.58862a4a216fe6fcc6fd632785204107.JPG

The bogies for these were also assembled yesterday, and the lot were put together today to find the power car is far higher than the trailers! After trying the buffer heights against some other stock it is the trailers that need to go up luckily. Once I get the ride height and couplings sorted, these will be stored until the etches arrive. Is it lunch time yet? Kev.

Indeed Simon.  But I'm not sure on the colours yet!  They entered service late 94 in NSE, had the red band painted blue (badly!) in 95 and were in Regional Railways green stripe in 96. The later is what I would like to do, but were any done in 95?

Still looking for proof!  Kev.
