I picked up a good tip for insulators from Andi Dell; self-wind them using single core wire around a thicker piece of stiff wire the same size as the registration arms. I found that 15 turns was about right for my WCML Mk1 portals. The plus-point is that they are virtually free! I'm struggling to remember how I fixed them in place, possibly a dot of superglue at either end. They certainly look the part.

Yes thats how I did the ones on Outon Road. Sadly no more since the chap who bought the layout had a bird in the loft incident and wrecked the lot.

Thanks for all the positive comments everybody, it all helps to keep the enthusiasm up! Today’s progress is some ground cover -

This much is needed before the platform tops can go on, the rest can wait until the surounding structures are in place. The more eagle eyed will also spot the rest of the trunking is now in place, as well as orange cable piping and AWS ramps. Kev.

And the tops on -

With a Bachmman Mk1 for clearance tests. As you can see, very little of the 'scenics' under the platform is visible. At least I know it's there! Kev.

I've gone for the Traintronics ones Carl. AA ones are way out of the wife's price range. (I can imagine it now - ''how much for toy traffic lights?'') Kev.

I looked for an AA 3 aspect with 4 sets of feathers for my layout. Think I have decided on non working ones instead. Can't justify spending that much.

Just been catching up on your thread Kev, I have thoroughly enjoyed reading through it. Great modelling.

I love the detail, especially under the platforms! Well done, at least you will be satisfied that it is there, even if you cannot see it!

The OHLE is looking great, you must be excited about seeing those superb EMUs passing under it!

You picking me up on attention to detail made me laugh Grimley, what with your ''mega shed'' an all!  Thanks for the complement. As for EMU’s under the wires, after putting on the platform tops I thought I’d better have a test to make sure the clearances are all ok. First up I stocked up the fiddle yard/sector plate -

And from the other end -

The two 31's and the 20 are standing in the (what will be hidden) headshunts. And the first train to arrive at Parrot Hall's platforms was -

A 153!!!! This was followed by the 304 -

And ready for departure -

post-8271-0-37464900-1448634838_thumb.jpg

While sneaking round the back comes 08 815 with some ballast hoppers -

post-8271-0-48131100-1448634851_thumb.jpg

Next to arrive is a 156 -

While the 156 shunts over from platform Two to platform One (this will be an alternative move) 31 405 shunts a sturgeon wagon in the yard -

Once the 156 is safely across, a 150/1 arrives in platform two -

While 08 815 re-appears with a steel wagon -

Before another EMU, a 310 this time, arrives -

And the 81 made an appearence too -

And posed just for Rik, (unitned) a flashback to the late 70's/early 80's -

My Lordz!!!!!!!!!  I would have to sort out a magnet for uncoupling for that move to work though. It all worked too, apart from one dry joint, which you can see the repair still needing a touch up in one of the photo's. I've also spotted the missing pipe at one end of the 304 too. Kev.
