Free Vintage Bus Service

We will be providing a free bus service from Aylesbury railway station direct to Railex and return every forty minutes during both Saturday and Sunday. The service will start half an hour before Railex opens and the last bus will depart Stoke Mandeville Stadium a few minutes after the show closes each day.

The bus service will be run by a vintage routemaster bus.

Parking Information

Parking at William Harding School

Free parking for Railex visitors is available at Stoke Mandeville Stadium in marked bays, in previous years we have also used the William Harding School for additional car parking spaces. This year due to unannounced building work at this location we are unable to use the school for extra parking as we have done in the past,

We would like recommend that visitors may like to use the town centre car parks and use the free and excellently restored Routemaster bus from the railway station to Railex that runs up to every forty minutes.

Car parks in Aylesbury are free on Sunday and we recommend the long stay Friarscroft (588 places) car park close to the station which is £3 for all day on Saturday and free on Sunday detail on all town centre car parks can be found here http://eplanning.aylesburyvaledc.gov.uk/CarParks/aylesbury.htm .

The roads around the school and stadium car parks are residential and although have no parking restrictions should you park there we would like to keep our neighbours happy so please abide with all road parking regulations, park safely and keep all access areas and driveways clear. There is likely to be more space on the school side of the railway line.

Stoke Mandeville Hospital car parks that are located close to Railex are chargeable but at the weekends generally tend to be quiet. Charges are: 2 - 4 hours: £3.00 and 4 - 8 hours: £4.00. see their website for full details. Access from the hospital is next to the Cancer Care Unit, just follow the road from the pay & display carparks.

Connerburn http://www.2mm.org.uk/layouts/connerburn/ by Jim Watt has just been added to the list is coming all the way Scotland, so many in the south will not have seen it.

Also although booked for Railex 2011 the Paul Banbrick the owner of Whitchurch Road has agreed to bring a couple of boards and his scratch built Metropolitain rolling stock as a taster for Railex 2010.

Another confirmation for 2010 in the form of John Birkett-Smith's fantastic N gauge Totness layout.

Brilliant! For those who haven't seen it, here's a couple of pics from RailWells last year

Last weekend a small group descended on a village hall in Oxfordshire to see East Lynn and Nunstanton bolted together for the first time ever. The hall was too small to attach the quay, and there were one or two glitches to overcome, but this is a small taster of what you can expect in May:

Nunstanton. Great Eastern main line to the right, GER branch diverging to the left. A little photoshop work to extend the field on the right, and the sky above.

First loco down the line - also Trevor's first loco, built in 1973. East lynn twinkles in the distance.

The Coffee Pot leaves Nunstanton's environs for the swing bridge.

The view across the bridge to East Lynn is rather special. The branch on the right, previously GE/M&GN joint is now solely M&GN owned.

Ta for that Adrian smile.gif

I wonder how much scope for these hook-ups there is, because they are potentially very interesting. Last year's Railex had Pulborough and Ferring for instance, and it would have been great to see those two connected - I suppose the main stumbling block is electric/control compatibility once you have a suitable adaptor piece to do the mechanical connection.

Looking forward to seeing this later in the year.

Bawdsey by Paul Marshall Potter is another confirmed layout for this year http://bawdsey.wordpress.com/dimensions-exhibition-requirements/

We have also confirmed the vintage busses again for this year, although the two busses we used last year have swapped days and the Green Routemaster will be used on the Saturday and the Red one on the Sunday, My other half has offered to sell Railex programmes on the bus on both days.

The following is for those people planning on coming by car to Railex, as the William Harding School car park we have used in the past few years is now not avalible for Railex parking.

Free parking for Railex visitors is available at Stoke Mandeville Stadium in marked bays, in previous years we have also used the William Harding School for additional car parking spaces. This year due to unannounced building work at this location we are unable to use the school for extra parking as we have done in the past,

We hope to secure additional free parking in Stoke Mandeville Hospital staff areas in the hospital grounds adjacent to the stadium car park and some extra grassed areas at the stadium itself.
