Ron Solly
All the rows of magnets need to be the same magnetic polarity, it doesn't matter which side is N or S as long as they are all the same. Otherwise there appears to be a weakening of the magnetic affect.
Il Grifone
1322 I like the idea of magnetic sleepers, but have a query, does the the magnetic axis lie across the track or is it vertical? Thanks in advance! 1350
Ron Solly
Across the track, the same as the Kadee magnets - north on one rail side & south on the other.

Dartmothian
Hi. Just picked up this thread and read with interest Kevinims's comments that the polarity of the magnets doesn't matter. I have just received 50 3mm cube magnets and cannot fully get the uncoupling to work effectively. My best results are when four magnets are under one rail and the other four have their polarity reversed under the other rail. Even then I can only get non delayed uncoupling. Can anybody throw any light on this please. D
Ron Solly
Er, a new method under the rails - I use those 3mm cube magnets in a strip of 5 to replace sleepers - 3 sets in fact and once painted & ballasted, very hard to see. all north at one rail side & so south at the other. Andy Reichert
All just be careful that no small child or animal gets the chance to try and swallow any of the neodymium magnets. Life threatening injuries and major abdominal surgery could result! Andy
Il Grifone
736 The magnets arrived yesterday, so now I can experiment. (Excellent service from 'Guy's Magnets' on eBay -Ordered 3 pm - arrived next day!)
altone
I for one would be very interested to see how you go, as I'm thinking of switching to kadees and want a discrete auto uncouple facility. Obviously the rare earth magnets work for some members, but you could give us a blow by blow account. Cheers Gerry C
Ron Solly
Have a read of this - there are many pages with blow by blow accounts Kadee magnetic uncoupling http://yourmodelrailway.net/view_topic.php?id=8481&forum_id=
