Quite an education into the complex world of brake tenders and also into the psychology of railway modelling. One needs a very thick skin indeed to share the production of an RTR model on RMWeb. However it did pay off for the manufacturer in this case as the final outcome didn't have a set of serious blunders that had originally been incorporated. This was thanks to a range of people on here, not me I hasten to say. So presumably they sold at least a few more as a result. Moreover they have the means of re-releasing a quality product in future, and earning even more profit from the existing investment in moulds etc. I've been interested to see your latest creation, something I keep meaning to have a go at myself - like so many things! I saw the Hornby Magazine video and ordered one which arrived today. I ordered the weathered SYP green one B964113. A little beauty indeed. The only question I have regards steam era lamps. Were brake tenders ever allowed to run without lamps - ie using the headcode fro mthe diesel pushing them ? I am guessing not. The model is fitted with two lamps on each, but looks a little incongruous. Great work by Dapol apart from the wheels which will need a little more paint. No. Working appendix were very specific. No lamps if sandwiched between loco & train though. You could only guarantee a good enough view of the headcode if the loco was one of the - relatively few - classes with the blind box above the cab. I don't think I've come across those - sounds like a committee had to decide the camel vs dromedary design for the iron horse. The two humper was a one off, believed to be the prototype i think (but it's a long time since I read that so don't quote me !) Mike. I don't see a real problem with propelling. My impression is they don't serious impact the driver's view, and I would imagine propelling makes his cab a little more crashworthy than sitting up front in a flat-fronted cab. Trev52A Posted December 8, 2022 Share Posted December 8, 2022 As this topic is current again due to the new batch now being available, I thought it might be worthwhile to upload this picture of mine of the northbound Anglo-Scottish Car Carrier. (It was previously uploaded to this topic - not by me - in 2013, but the picture in that post now seems to be lost.) A brake tender with XP headlamps! The Brush Type 4 had apparently failed and been rescued by a Type 2 which looks like it was commandeered off a freight, still with the DBT attached. I took this at Low Fell, Gateshead on 2nd August 1967 but I did not make a note of the locos involved! I would be delighted to hear from anyone else who saw this working who can supply the missing details.
