4472, Or How Not To Overhaul A Steam Loco

The ETH index of those 12 Mk1s/Mk2 is in the mid 40's. It may not have been freezing but the draw is likely to have required enough juice to keep it above idle. If it had been a 37 then I think that I would preferred it to have been on full whack but a 47 sounds so naff to either an A3 or EE

When supplying ETH a 47s raises it's engine speed by a fixed amount, can't recall what the rise in rpm is. Classes 33 and 50 also do this, unlike classes 31 and 37 where the idle speed of the engine is dependent on ETH load.

The loco seems to be running very well so I don't understand the title of the thread. "how not to overhaul a loco"

It was appropriate for the time, there's a more current topic here http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/103992-flying-scotsman-back-on-the-mainline-2016/ (but I expect you know that).
