Leander
Post-Leeds Exhibition Report The display boards (courtesy of the EMGS). TheLaird and Leander waiting for the rush of seekers of knowledge! It's a sign! And thanks to Andy Sharpe for making it, the letters being cut out on John's laser cutter. All in all it was a very enjoyable weekend, even if we didn't really learn much more about the station and its environs. We probably contributed more to visitors' knowledge of Leeds' railway history. It was surprising that mant people had never heard of Leeds City North (or Wellington) and many got it confused with Wellington Street Goods yards, which were next to Central station and owned by the GNR/NER. In case anyone here needs as refresher on the geography. here's a map which might go some way to making things clearer.

RMweb Premium Barry O Posted October 30, 2017 RMweb Premium Share Posted October 30, 2017 Nice to see the team... and seems like we need to do some education on railways to the good people of Leeds. Many thanks for coming along Baz
woodenhead
As a thought on when this is at the stage where you get to play trains, have you thought about live streaming the action, I think it would be quite popular.

There's no 'playing trains', it's quite challenging to operate, especially routing trains correctly through the junction, to which a certain Suddaby of this parish will (should) testify :D
leopardml2341
A bit out of period, but nonetheless a Leeds - St.Pancras service window label.

Many thanks for coming along Baz A bit of missionary work Baz! We were surprised at the general lack of awareness to be honest. Let's hope what we did helped. Leander
As a thought on when this is at the stage where you get to play trains, have you thought about live streaming the action, I think it would be quite popular. I expect that some videos will appear here in the fullness of time. One has already been posted. I'm not sure whether live streaming with the sound on would be suitable for a family audience! A great deal of concentration is required while operating. At least you haven't got an audience on the other side of the barrier, just your colleagues ready to offer advice and other words of wisdom At the moment, we've worked through about 23 hours of the day long sequence although we're having to double (make that triple or quadruple) up a number of trains but at least the concept is proving 'do-able'. Last Tuesday three of us got through about 2 hours of WTT in more or less even time, and we haven't got the light engine or all of the shunt moves worked out yet. This meant a fair amount of doubling up on tasks, for example driving and signalling, together with fiddle yard work. We have an operating session planned next month with a much larger crew involved. It will be 'interesting' to see how it goes.

woodenhead
Could be a bit tricky. But not impossible, nothing that a circular saw and 5 miles of gaffer tape couldn't solve.

Popular Post TheLaird
I took this shot mainly for my benefit, a reference to where things are at start of day. It is midnight on 12th Sept 1962, the first time I have completed a full day of the working timetable. From left to right, the Parcels Dock is empty as loaded vans have been shunted on to trains about to depart. Platform 1 sees the Leeds St Pancras sleeper with its Loco keeping the coaches nice and warm. Although the sleeper is not scheduled to depart until 02.23 the passengers are allowed to take up their berths from 2300hrs. These coaches will be attached to the southbound Glasgow St Pancras sleeper. In platform 2 is the 00.25 Bedford parcels awaiting its loco. Platform 3 is vacant and in 4 are the vans for the 0300 Bristol Mails. Just arrived in 5 is the last move of the day, the 10/27 from Sheffield consisting of 4 WR Coaches and the Loco stores van from Derby. At the end of platform six is the stock for the 1.15 to Carnforth. The rake of old Gresleys have been dumped at the end of one of the South Carriage Sidings and are unlikely to see any use except in dire emergency!!

TheLaird
This weekend sees our first fully crewed running session, no Block Instruments yet and still mockup signals but the bells are working! Just to keep the operating team on their toes, they were presented with this photo and asked to identify the trains and state what the time is, I thought some of you RMWebbers may be interested. Yes the clue is in the file name!! P1 Leeds Sleepers that are about to shunt out and await the arrival of the Up Glasgow Sleeper. P2 empty. P3 just arrived the Carlisle Sheffield Parcels. P4 the stock for the 3.00am Bristol Mails and the stn Pilot having just arrived back from LCS having delivered the transfer vans. P5 the Down Edinburgh Sleeper just arrived, D163 backing on to work it north. Surprisingly most of the answers were reasonably sane!
