Guest 34008Padstow Posted December 27, 2009 Share Posted December 27, 2009 evening guys. i have had a look on google but to no avail so i was wandring if anyone knows when Bulleid pacifs were repainted from malachite into brunswick, im assuming it would of been after nationisation, im particularly intrested in my namesake 34008 Padstow. also slightly off topic when was the first denamed and in what year and is there a differnece between the nameplate brackets on a WC & BOB? any help greatly appreciated. Lady_Ava_Hay Posted December 27, 2009 Share Posted December 27, 2009 A bit of research reveals that a lot of the WC class ran in Malachite with BR numbering until an overhaul. Padstow was fitted with a new style cab in June 1950. I would suggest that she ran in Brunswick green from then. She was rebuilt in 1960. RMweb Premium phil-b259 Posted December 27, 2009 RMweb Premium Share Posted December 27, 2009 Bullied pacifics are something of a nightmare when it comes to liveries (and modifications to the cabs etc for that mater) as the livery and insigna all depended on the time the loco was outshopped from the works. Variations included 'Southern' branding, 'British Railways' branding or simply no owners idenification at all (i.e. just a number) with either an s prefix or the full BR number. All of this could either be in the southern 'sunshine style or the plainer style BR adopted. At some point the Southern roundal on the smokebox gave way to a BR number although the loco itself could still be in de-branded malachite. Eventually Brunswick green was applied however this was far from a instant process and it was not untill the 50s that the livery situation was stabalised Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...

West of Exeter was banned territory for the rebuilds - too heavy - though I have a feeling they were eventually allowed down to Plymouth.
