And to finish....

Latest arrival is Peak D55 'Royal Signals'. It has been charged with the 1M86 'Thames-Clyde Express' and is seen just entering Dent station.

The detailing pack and suitable headboard have been fitted together with express lamps.

In the northbound direction Peak D67 'The Royal Artilleryman' a stalwart of the line has charge of the Edinburgh bound 1S64 'The Waverley'.

The same level of detailing has now been done to this loco also.

post-5296-0-54807200-1447613102_thumb.jpg

Both loco's have had the headcodes changed to suit the north and southbound TCE at one end and Waverley at the other.

Both expresses pass each other close to the box.

Both trains rattle the tranquility of the remote location.

The ganger still looks interested.

That's it for now guys!

I assume the windows are for ventilation rather than light as you can see straight through the walls  :jester:

Rather more seriously, those etches are really nice. Having had my first experience of etched components in the last week I'm now sold on them. Are they custom etches? If so who do you use for them as I can see a lot of scope in what I'm wanting to put together?

Kind regards, Neil

Hi Neil,

Ventilation at Dent? Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!

They were done for me by Ambis Engineering, reasonable turnaround for such a small order and very reasonably priced. He does have a range of standard etches some of which may suit your needs. His name is Alan. www.ambisengineering.co.uk

Hi Mike

Your two Peaks, both seem to have air brake cylinders under the battery boxes. Wasn't that a later fitting after most had been painted blue?

Otherwise WOW!!!!!

Hi Clive,

Obviously these are 'as bought' and I never even gave it a thought, will have to do some investigations! Thanks.

Nice article Mike, spoilt only by the usual reference to 'railway station'

More nice images Mike, and I think anyone reading that article will have to be impressed! Well deserved as would an article in any of the glossy railway modelling magazines - hasn't anyone approached you yet? Perhaps AndyY will have another vote on the subject and we can mobilise the support. The irony of the date didn't escape me by the way! Thanks once again for sharing it all with us, and just like Neil(Anotheran)'s shed (Don't know if you've seen it on his NE thread?) the etchings give a much more scale thickness to the 'wood' on the window frames - it is going to look superb.

Kind regards,

Jock.

Just out of intrest mike, where do you get your headboards for locos from?

Is it from somewhere like fox transfers or sankey scenics?

Do they come ready to glue on or do you make a plastic backing for the transfer?

They look really good and very detailed

Cheers

Ben

Hi Ben,

Those are etched items from '247 Developments' and are ready to fit. I do have others by Sankey Scenics which I used on other layouts however the S&C was a little sparse on named trains, a few WCML diversions will introduce a few more when I get around to it!

Hi Guys,

Disaster!!!

Well that's a bit strong, bit of a set back really. The plastic used on the SM house windows has reacted through the solvent in the glue and tainted the plastic white. I have just spent the evening removing them and cutting out apertures for the windows to fit into, The clear plastic will be replaced behind the Perspex which will avoid the problem next time. AAAARRRRGGGGHHHH!!!!!!!!!!

All will be back on course tomorrow, but its my real pet hate 'doing things twice' wife often complains..................... but.......................I tidied up in time for last Christmas.

Hi mike

Ive ordered a certain headboard from 247 developments.just wondering how do you attach yours to a loco?

Are you just simply glueing them straight on to the loco?

Cheers

Ben

Hi Ben,

Simples! I just use a small piece of Blu-Tak, this allows you to move the board from loco to loco.

One of the strengths of the Forum, Ben. SOMEONE will always have a practical, workable, often simple answer to what seems a difficult problem.

Jeff

Couldnt agree with you more jeff!

Someone has always been there done that.

Yer cant buy experience!!

Cheers

Hi guys,

Weekend update...

Still fiddling with the Station Masters house, its proving to be more difficult than the station building was.

Looking at the photos I have going back to the 1960's it shows that two elevations (roadside & rear) have similar stonework to the station building while the other two (station access road & front) have rendered walls, this is likely to assist in repelling the prevailing weather coming down off the fells.

Road elevation and front elevation.

Slight mistake on the porch area which has now been rectified. The close-up photos I took have the building covered in scaffold so I did not see clearly the return, it was only when I looked at the door position something nagged at me before -eureka!

Rendered walling, (Wills materials pack) has been added together with few quoin courses (Wills) and sills. It was at this point I realised something looked wrong. No pictures of corrected porch due to battery duff!

There has been no playing trains over the weekend but here are a few from Friday night...

post-5296-0-58535300-1448220087_thumb.jpg

Heavy 'Down' fitted van train trundles sedately past the box on it route north, in charge is Brush Type 4 D1942 itself getting set for the onset of an S&C winter!

post-5296-0-60099000-1448220099_thumb.jpg

Next along on the Down line is Stanier 8F 2-8-0 48739 with an empty mineral working comprsing fitted 16T steel opens.

Not to be outdone the 'Up' line hosts Clayton Type 1 Bo-Bo D8500 the doyen of the class hauling a fitted freight as far as Skipton.

post-5296-0-50080700-1448220138_thumb.jpg

Both trains pass each other close to the barrow/pedestrian crossing. This remains the only method of reaching the 'Up' platform..........WHAT! In this H&SE world tut-tut!

Thats it for now guys.
