43474 draws its train onward having serviced the motive power depots at Skipton and Hellifield with coal supplies, collecting the coal empties and removing the ash to the spoil tip.

This view clearly shows the coal and ash loads carried by 5, 7 and 8 plank opens taken out of revenue service replaced by 16t minerals mainly

Here is the chassis of D1662 showing one bogie removed leaving just the mounting yolk, does anyone know where to get new bogie mounting yolks from?

attachicon.gif2017-08-19 13.57.07.jpg

The bogie shown stripped down, the shaft coupling next to the worm gear is the faulty part, (again any idea where to get these)

Hi Mike,

Try Howes for Heljan spares. https://www.howesmodels.co.uk/

Mind you isn't it typical of the WR to lend the LMR their poorly engines expecting Toton to repair them.

Mike, Could it possibly be the strain of the Train on the Helix that has caused the split?

Hi Andy, I suppose anything is possible but I doubt the plastic would split simply due to load, they are just an interference fit on the shaft so its more likely fatigue in the plastic, if it is the load then I have several other Heljan contenders to look forward to :scared:

Hi Clive,

Had a look at Howes site last week for a couple of spare 'yolks' for a mate but there was nothing listed, will give it another go tomorrow. As for the WR dumping duff locos on Toton when I was there everyone did, Peaks from Cricklewood were renowned for arriving WITHOUT and I truly mean WITHOUT brake blocks, many a time the loco would be braking on the hanger with just the clip from the block evident, reporting it made no difference whatsoever.

Hi Clive,

Thought I would update you on the Heljan situation, sadly Howes don't list the parts we need but I found another outlet which seems to have a larger range and although they did not have specific Class 47 items I need I have ordered the equivalent from the Class 52. For my mate again no specific but the Class 23 version should fit so that's been ordered also.

Hi Mike

When I was exhibiting my depot layouts in Essex a chap would often have a chat with me. He wasn't a railway modeller but had worked as a fitter at Cricklewood so would natter about life in a loco depot. I do recall him talking about replacing the brake blocks on Peaks and how long it took. It must have been a long time if they had to go all the way to Toton and back. :locomotive: :locomotive:

He was very informative about loads of things which helped my modelling. Not as funny as an ex fitter who pointed to something and said "We didn't do that at or shed". My reply was "Oh, another chap told me that's how he did it at his shed.". To which he said "He must have been a Stratford bloke". :mosking:

I always found the information given to me by fitters and drivers to be very helpful. I must have been a reasonable listener and learner because when I made changes I would get compliments by other railwaymen on getting things right.

I have only just "discovered" this thread and just wanted to say that I think this layout is superb and I think you have done a wonderful job in capturing the atmosphere of the place. I have visited Dent over a period of 40 years and love the place so your model has a particular interest for me.

I am now engaged in working my way through the entire thread to discover how you did it all. (You will probably discover "likes" from posts a long time back).

Thanks again.

Nice photos as always mike, like many others, its such an impressive layout it never becomes boring viewing the images you share.

Can i ask about the point rodding in front of the box if you dont mind?

Is it the wills stuff or is it scratchbuilt?

Looks very good & detailed.

Cheers

Ben

Cheers Ben,

The point rodding is the Wills version, I do admit it looks a little large but I can accept some compromises and this is one. I was looking through some S&C books yesterday and realised I had missed something out on the station area so I'm busy making good my omission so keep looking in!

Hi Mike,

Some dam good modelling there buddy keep up the good work.

What is the BR standard is it a kit or converted.

And are you going to Expo next weekend if so say hello again ( I will be weathering locos).

Mark

Hi Mark,

Thanks mate, I must admit I had overlooked that show, I'll check the details and hopefully get there thanks for the heads-up!

The Std.2 is an ongoing modified Ivatt, I need to source a chimney and top feed to get the loco looking closer to the prototype, there is probably more to do but I'm an impatient sod and want to see it now hahaha.

I'll get my watering can out next time, oh sorry, forgot I don't do gardening hahaha :jester:

Noticed your location as 'West of Scotland' - big area! can you narrow it down for a Glaswegian please.

Hi Mike we are a small group of 11 guys based in and around Glasgow with a few members just outwith plus one in Ayrshire one in Perth and MadMcCann in Carlisle..they banished him for his extreme scot nat views!

Alongside Alloa we have under construction Larbert a 40ft scale representation of the station circa 1963 but I am sure your interest would be the eye wateringly good EM finescale layout by a certain member very well known to many on this site as it's based on the S&C complete with viaduct.

There's also an equally superb model of Edinburgh Princes St station being built privately from another of the 'broad gauge' guys amongst us.

We have a few things on the go which is fine except for one thing by the time we are ready to exhibit we will all be too auld and decrepit to humph the things around.

New young members needed I think.

Dave.

Hi Dave,

It sounds as though you have a great group of guys there, as for your layouts what can I say apart from WoW! I have seen Alloa at several shows the last time being at Wigan and I can't tear myself away, fabulous layout. I look forward to seeing your groups creation of Larbert at some time, I can still see the departure boards at Buchanan St. featuring Larbert on the Aberdeen run with the A4's mainly in charge, happy memories there. Princes St. in 'O' gauge that has to be some size!

I have now found Larbert in layout topics and will be keeping a close eye on progress.

Keep up the good work Dave.

All the best.
