Have a look at this video Mike, not your model of camera but I bet it works the same.

Hi Mick,

This looks identical and when I manage to get a 'quiet' half hour I'll have a go. At present I have at least managed to get the connection to wi-fi done but I'm still having problems with linking the computer but I'm sure this video will talk me through. As you can probably tell I have never had an easy time with technology! Many thanks - once again!

Hi Guys,

Weekend update.

This weekend starts with some bad news! The Hornby Patriot (45531) which I bought last Saturday I found only works in reverse with just a whirring noise in forward, took it back and changed it yesterday and guess what, you'll never guess - this one does not go in any direction but makes the same noise. I doubt I'll get another so will swap it for something else next week, gutted giving the driving connection.

Patriot 4-6-0 45532 'llustrious' in extremely unkempt condition is hauling a rake of Grampus wagons loaded with ballast and heading for Manchester via Blackburn.

This loco is a very old 'Mainline' model and the new one was to replace it.

Another edition is 'Duke of Gloucester' which needs a few alterations before being entered into traffic.

A brace of English Electric Type 1's take a northbound steel working through Dent, unusually the loco's are coupled with No.1 end facing forward - I actually saw some footage recently of a train just like this.

Hi Mick,

Partial success! I have now 'apparently' connected to the wi-fi but it still will not talk to the PC. To be honest now I have read the instructions over and over it's probably just as easy to plug the wire in for photo transfer. Many thanks for your help - yet again!

Hi Phil,

I'm sure it's DCC ready so would presume there is no chip, I know nothing about DCC however - where would I look?.

I do all my own weathering Phil.

Evening Mike,

A lovely set of images as we have become accustomed to! Terribly sorry to hear about the 'Patriot', rather takes the gloss off your lovely story - surely there must be a solution to the problem?

Looking forward to your build of the stationmaster's house, the windows are superb by the way!

Kind regards,

Jock.

HI  MIKE

the instruction leaflet tells you its in loco, presume you have it ? Shows how to strip loco body off . when inside check 8 pin blanking plug as shown on leaflet is fitted .If a lead of cables and a circuit board  is attached where blanking plug is  that's a chip. need to remove that and put blanking plug in its place. this might be with bag of bits( blanking plug) if chip fitted   Its a 10 minute  job to check honest. IF you don't have the Hornby leaflet ill see if I can copy mine  pity I don't live just  down road !!

regards phil

bad news that Patriot. I tried my Hornby Scot on Chapel en le frith last week at our show in leeds- no go due to a shifted driving wheel. Just check the wheels are quartered properly as mine only goes (badly!) in one direction. I feel a new chassis coming on!

Hi Baz,

Its not that sort of problem, you can free wheel the loco which you should not be able to do I would imagine, the motor whirrs and the previous one ran in reverse faultlessly but change to forward and not even a jolt, very odd. In 50 odd years of modelling I have never seen that before.

Hi Mike

So many fantastic photos... difficult to choose my favourites.

The beautifully weathered Patriot - The 9F on coal passing the 20s - The 40 on parcels......

Thanks, once again, for taking the time to post them.

It will be quicker using the wire.

Every camera I have used I take the memory card out and put it in the slot in the computer if it has one, or use a usb card reader, old habits I guess :declare:

Always reformat the card in the camera though, not the computer.

Hi Mick,

I agree on the time aspect however I find it useful when I take photos on my phone I can just come home, have my tea or whatever and the photos magically arrive in my Dropbox ready for resizing. Its definitely slower but easier however it looks like the cable from now on. Thanks again Mick.

Hi Phil,

I took the body off and it looks like a blanking chip that's fitted, I'm sure its a drive gear problem. S&J have said I can swap it but they don't have another so I'll have to settle for a 'surprise'!

Hi Mike

Always worth a look    and I would have looked at the drive to see if I could rectify the problem  myself if there was no alternative  replacement . The one I've got PLANET

is a good runner  .You could always buy another version(running one )  and rename and number it .Done that a few times to get what I want . Don't they check what they sell to see if its running? before you buy ?        To me going backwards and forwards to rectify  faulty goods  twice ,would seriously peeve me !!!!!!!

Hi Phil,

I did have a look at the drive - well what I could see of it - but I didn't want to start stripping down the wheels to get to the gears!

I have done the renaming thing many a time but this one was ready done for me - a very rare thing in my experience! I didn't even know it had been introduced till seeing it there. The shop is very small and specialises in end of range and discontinued stock, but the nice thing is its a proper browsing shop but there is no test track unfortunately.

If the pat is like the Scot its a nightmare to get the wheels out anyway. It does sound very much like a gear problem

I am going to rip the wheels out of mine and install Alan Gibson replacements.

One of the lads got a pat at our show for £63 unused so keep your eyes peeled for a bargain one.

Will they do a Body swap mate?

BTW I'm back from my hols and catching up with life in general as well as Layouts.

Hi Andy,

You're back - Oh No the pressure will be on again then!

They don't have any more Patriots unfortunately. It will be a surprise whatever I get because even I don't know at this time!

Nice to have you back bud.

Cheers Barry,

I never go to that length, I got put off years ago with a Kays Black 5, I still have nightmares about it. Hahaha. You have to watch the earlier versions as the chimney was wrong. R25XX range I believe.
