Not because he's anything against such renumbering but he grumbled that when he was a kid every other train he saw seemed to be hauled by Alberta (so the model of it was an instant buy for me - appropriate for the S&C too). Yes almost every magazine at the time featured 'Alberta' but for me up in Glasgow it proved impossible to cop, I think Leeds men took it off at Carlisle and ran it back home knowing I was waiting for it desperately! I don't agree in principle with renumbering of preserved loco's but for Alberta I'm willing to make an exception and take the flak as a consequence, and yes 45562 is on my loco roster for DENT as I bought two of them and 'renumbered' one to my very first engine spotted 45629 Straits Settlements, the loco that got me hooked back in the early 1960's. 2

The truth was probably quite close to that. I saw 45562 at the bufferstops in St. Enoch's on the last day of the summer service in 1962. I was told that its train was the last regular service to be booked for steam haulage throughout from Leeds to Glasgow. Any scheduled services after that, like the summer trains booked for Jubilees over the S&C, changed engines at Carlisle. I did see Holbeck Jubilees in Glasgow at times after that, but only on specials. I never saw 45593 - still haven't! 1

I hope someone out there recognizes some of them, they may all be the same place to be honest. Catching up on the Dent thread, and not sure you got the answer on these pictures, picture 2 IS the south end of Kingmoor Shed, the others are of the Fuel and Inspection shed (F&I to us locals) that was at the south end of Kingmoor Marshalling Yard and about a mile north of Kingmoor shed. This was the main stabling point for the Yard and in early 70's would host up to 50+ locos, that were normally left idling, in the sidings adjacent to the shed and immediately to the West. I recall an old Fowler tender being used near the fuelling point in the early 70's. You would nearly always see classes 08, 24,25,26,27,37,40,45,46,47,50, and after 1974 also 81,82,83,84,85,86. Class 20's were not regular visitors but not unusual, unlike Brush 2 5634 that pitched up on a Saturday afternoon in 1973 to the amazement of the regulars. 1 1
67A
Hi, Yes I got the answer a while ago, it was the angle of photo on the TMD shot which threw me and I could not remember that office block at all! I must have about 8000 35mm photos from the 1960's through to 1990's when I changed to slides then later digital and I have now scanned all those negatives, some locations are still difficult to identify as my records 'went missing' in 1987 as a consequence of a fractious divorce and sadly the old memory is not what it used to be either.
67A
Hi all, On Tuesday Andy York visited and took a range of photos for a forthcoming issue of BRM, I don't know which one as yet. He certainly liked the layout and enjoyed his visit, I have seen the images and they are fabulous but obviously I can't put them on here so you'll have to wait till BRM comes out, I'll let you all know what issue once its confirmed. Thanks must go to Andy for taking the time and making the layout look even better, you will see what I mean if you get the mag. 4
67A
Now for something different... Returning to the Tool Van conversion Although I filled the window areas and rubbed them down I could still feel the outline. So the idea is to clad the face with 0.010" plasticard I then applied some 'Contacta' adhesive sparingly Fixed the oversize plasticard over the face and after about 15mins I went around the edges with some plastic weld. Next job was to cut out the apertures around the door recesses - carefully Then rubbed them down with P1200 wet-n-dry paper Last job for today was to spray them, my primer had gone off so used a matt roof grey as an undercoat, will continue job next week or weekend. Next some play time! 4
67A
Had a little play time earlier today, we'll follow Black 5 44999 as she heads a Bradford-Carlisle stopper which was regularly used to convey parcels vans at the rear. Sorry about the background clutter on a few of these Back in a bit with a couple of diesels. 11
Popular Post 67A
Now for a couple of freights... First we have Peak Type 4 D4 Great Gable hauling a van train south In the northbound direction Clayton Type 1 D8500 has the task of hauling a general merchandise train comprising 5 plank opens carrying all manner of goods The wildlife seems undisturbed In the station goods yard we see a prize cattle van awaiting its load. Whilst researching Dent I came across documentation from the late 1930's showing the cost of a return ticket to Garsdale was 1s6d (7 1/2p) and the cost of single ticket for a bull was 7s6d (37 1/2p) so it seemed the farmer was selling his prize bull! I worked on D4 many times when I was a fitter at Toton, I even took the nameplates off sadly for safe keeping and not for me! A successful type passes a rather unsuccessful type but I have to say I did like the Claytons, you could have had a disco in the cab and the reason for such a large cab was it was intended to fit a train heating boiler in there believe it or not! Goods trains were so interesting back in those days As the Peak disappears into Widdale tunnel we'll call it a day. Hope you enjoyed. 19

67A
Hi all, Hope everyone is okay during this lockdown, keep safe and keep modelling. I think I must have been self isolating for the past 50 years to be honest! Anyway, as you know I got the Bachmann breakdown crane for Christmas and mentioned it would need a breakdown train to accompany it so here it is, well at least as far as I have got to date. Fairburn 2-6-4T has charge of returning the Holbeck Breakdown Crane to the depot. This is the full train assembled First vehicle is a 1960's style converted Mk1 into a tool and packing vehicle. The corridor connections have yet to be removed and plated over. Second vehicle started out life as an old RATIO LNWR saloon kit I have had for some time, I was never really going to use it as such but it made sense to butcher it for the breakdown train and whilst building it I plated over some of the windows and removed the corridor connections, the roof still requires painting and I will be removing the interior corridor and seating. Sorry this is bit dark. This coach I picked up recently with the intention of butchering this in a similar manner to the above. Rear end view shows the plated over corridor connections. Needless to say a fair bit of work still need doing but the major conversion work is now complete and I will order the relevant transfers from Railtec this week if they are still open. Hope you enjoyed. 13
67A
I have had a little bit of operation in between coach bashing... Patriot 45545 'PLANET' hurries north with a Liverpool-Glasgow service. Ex:LNWR Super 'D' heads south with a heavy coal working. Following behind we see Ex:LNER 01 2-8-0 63601 with a lengthy steel working. All manner of section shapes can be seen on this train. Quick jump in time to the late 1960's and BR Blue liveried Sulzer Type 2 D7667 has just exited Widdale tunnel. The Type 2 heads north with a ballast working. That's it guys, remember - keep safe! 15

Business completely as usual. Most orders for stock items continue to get shipped same day, even some custom orders too (e,g. complete loco pack with your choice of number / toad van names / etc - i.e. customisable items for which templates already exist). 1

Layout is in BRM out on 23rd. I know I'm biased but Andy's photos really do it justice. I have repainted the tool vans each in a slightly different shade of 'red', I thought the Gulf Red just looked too dark to me so have blended a few colours, I still have to order the transfers and will post some pics once they are applied. No worries on the Black 5 mate.

RMweb Gold PeterBB Posted April 30, 2020 RMweb Gold Share Posted April 30, 2020 Andy is in the 'process' of moving. He should have gone by Easter but the Covid-19 has delayed things somewhat. He had sent much of his stuff to relations in the area and had taken down his layouts. As a result of the delay he has unwrapped part of one and modified it to fit the new abode, is posting some former layout pictures and with new guitars has bee practicing to reform their band when he moves. All in all very active for a 'new' septuagenarian during lockdown. Cheers, Peter
