Bill
I recently bid on something thinking it would be this... But upon receipt it turned out to have something else as well It would probably have sold for a lot more had the vendor known what to make of the coat of arms.. The big and timely question of the time is ... "Does anyone have any knowlege as to whether these might have been used on the fabled Blue Pullman?" If not, then any knowledge at all as to which service they might have been used on... Thanks

RANGERS
Judging by the colour, it would have been the Blue Pullmans. It doesn't ring true with any of the traditional Pullman services. It's possible it might not have been used on any service, a promotional giveaway maybe?
Bill
Many thanks for the responses so far. Further research ahs elicited the following.. Players had two made One in Blue as shown and the other in Red. Apparently the shape was most likely researched and designed so that ash would not blow about and get into the pristine Pullman decor and linens. Now since the Blue Pullman had an alternating Red and Blue themed decor... I am hazarding a guess that they might have beedn used on said fabled service.. I am very keen to hear more and get some real facts...
RMweb Premium keefer Posted November 19, 2012 RMweb Premium Share Posted November 19, 2012 (edited) looked in the robertson blue pullman book and the only table-top ashtrays seen in pics are round silver (or silver-topped glass) - the top of the ashtray is roughly doughnut shaped, but with a big cutout (presumably big enough for a cigar!) merely supposing here, but i doubt any BR/pullman fixtures and fittings would be sullied by 'commercial' branding, especially since there was enough argy-bargy between BR and the pullman company anyway just thinking though, the pics etc. are on introduction, maybe commercialism crept in later on? EDIT: maybe a prototype or prospective sample by players fags to supply the ashtrays? Edited November 19, 2012 by keefer
Bill
It is seven years later.. And all things eventually turn up.. and yes its players again Promoting their products in Pullman cars.. You don't stick branding on your products unless you have (a) permission (b) Intend to make money through advertising. (c) want to associate your product with prestige.. With players you will travel in style, etc.. Senior Service also did a similar thing with BR for their revamped Pullman services.. (P.S. the seller never even noticed the Pullman logo or even realised that it related to rail travel in a bygone era!
