Fishplate
Hi Adrian, many more pages of inspiration, thank you. Your video of the hut led to a previous film of yours uploading next on Youtube. Deserves another airing surely as dated 2015 . Some nice integrated public transport on it. Perhaps there is a journey from Westerham to the City in lying "in the can" on a shelf in the Shed Editing Suite . . . . . ? 14 1 1
dasatcopthorne
Westerhamstation. Just a quick thanks for posting the pic, some time back, on how the Swan Neck lamps were made. I received my earring bits today and will be having a go. Cheers Dave Smith 1

RMweb Gold Popular Post westerhamstation Posted September 8, 2020 Author RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted September 8, 2020 I have just seen the October edition of BRM and was pleased to see in the realistic modelling spotlight section was my model of Brasted Station. what I had failed to do in the 50 word blurb was to explain how it was scratchbuilt using bits and pieces of household scrap materials and the only real purchases were the Slaters Plasticard. Pages 10 to about 16 detail the build of the station platform, station building and other bits and pieces. I hope that this shows how the end result was acheived. All the best Adrian. https://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/64587-brasted-station-oct-brm/page/10/ 16 6
RMweb Gold ChrisN Posted September 8, 2020 RMweb Gold Share Posted September 8, 2020 Well done for getting into BRM; I hope you know I think your modelling is amazing. Probably a good job that you did not mention that it was made from sequins and pound shop scrubbing brushes. 2 1
RMweb Gold Popular Post westerhamstation Posted November 26, 2020 Author RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted November 26, 2020 It's about time for me to get my finger out and do some more work on Ewer Street. A parcel of land next to the Acme Engineering Works has been reclaimed for building work, and to this end foundations have been laid for a Warehouse, which will match to some extent the one on the opposite side of the tracks, the buildings will be connected by a enclosed walkway above the track, and a loading bay built at the end of the warehouse. Construction will be my favourite method of boiler box carcase, clad with grey board, this is done as the layout is in the garage with a wide range of tempratures and the corrugated card gives a very solid carcase . Scalescenes papers and low relief warehouse kit will be used. Pictures of progress so far. All the best Adrian. (now back in tier 3) 25
grahame
How many new boilers have you had? And what'll you do when they stop making and selling gas boilers? ;-)
RMweb Gold westerhamstation Posted November 26, 2020 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted November 26, 2020 (edited) Hi Grahame, next door neighbour is a plumber who supplies me with boiler boxes, when he retires I hope we will all be using some form of alternative energy that involves corrugated cardboard boxes. All the best Adrian. Ps. 1 gas boiler, 3 pumps. 2 circuit boards. Edited November 26, 2020 by westerhamstation
RMweb Gold Alister_G Posted November 26, 2020 RMweb Gold Share Posted November 26, 2020 Great to see you making a start on another building mate, looking at the finished articles I don't think anyone would guess the origin, but it does give a good solid shell to add the detailing to. RMweb Gold Popular Post westerhamstation Posted November 28, 2020 Author RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted November 28, 2020 A start has been made on the cladding of the factory/warehouse. Background paper for the view through the windows has been fixed in place and the stand offs for the outer walls have been positioned and glued, two pieces of 2mm grey board have been stuck together to give the required thickness, leaving gaps for the sills, the outer support coloumns which will be covered with brick paper are made from four pieces of 2mm grey board stuck together. All this was done by the builders observing the proper social distancing. All the best from 2mtrs away Adrian. 21
sb67
Looking good Adrian. I'm sure it's been mentioned before but what do you use to stick the cladding on, is that glue sticks I see in one of the pics?
grahame
I hope the cladding is approved fire retardant stuff. We don't want a potential miniature disaster just for the sake of looking good. Which it is. 3
RMweb Gold westerhamstation Posted November 29, 2020 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted November 29, 2020 Hi Steve, I use Pritt stick which I find to be the most reliable, and then use a wallpaper seam roller to make sure that it fixed all over, a heavy weight on top while it drys will help stop it curling. All the best Adrian. 1 3
sb67
Cheers Adrian, does that stick the card to card ok as well ?

Al. Yep, been there, done that and continue to do so. It's when you don't do that, that your modelling has been elevated to the sublime pinnacle of perfection. And it's probably time to move on. Fortunately most of us continue to cut, nick, paint and glue fingers to bits of card and plastic, or burn themselves attempting soldering. Unfortunately there's also far too many that don't succumb and keep their fingers clean because they they never deign to undertake any constructional modelling. 2 2 1
RMweb Gold Popular Post westerhamstation Posted December 2, 2020 Author RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted December 2, 2020 The parts for the outer wall have been cut, along with the apeturers for the windows, and a start has been made on the glazing and the covering of the walls with the dark brown brick paper. All the best Adrian. 21
RMweb Gold westerhamstation Posted December 10, 2020 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted December 10, 2020 A bit of woodwork for the Warehouse/Factory, this has been made from some wooden fire lighter spills, split down into 2mm strips and glued onto a piece of card. Now that it is in position i think that it doesn't look right, so I am having a rethink and it will most likely end up in the bin. It's a good job the builders haven't knocked off for Christmas yet and can get on with making something else more suitable. All the best Adrian.
grahame
How about adding a wicket gate (door in a door - Google wicket gate for pictures) and some hinges on the large opening gates/doors?
