KeithHC
Can we assume that a Welsh builders firm Bodgit and Scarper have the construction contract. Keith Ps. There was actually a company of that name in Pembrokeshire. There is also a stonemason called Nurse and Payne and a great Dickensian named firm of solicitors " Bissmire Fudge and Co." RMweb Gold Oldddudders Posted April 30, 2019 RMweb Gold Share Posted April 30, 2019 Do I not recall hearing of a builder's van in the West Midlands that was signwritten "You've tried the cowboys - now try the Indians!" 1
KeithHC
I saw that on a TV program. It was a firm of Asian builders and they used that as there saying. I thought it was a brilliant play on words. Keith 1
RMweb Gold Alister_G Posted April 30, 2019 RMweb Gold Share Posted April 30, 2019 Not long ago I was queuing on the motorway, and was overtaken by a scaffolder's lorry. The company's name was Tubular Raiser, which I though was a brilliant pun, if surprisingly erudite for a builder Sorry Adrian, Al.

RMweb Gold westerhamstation Posted May 5, 2019 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted May 5, 2019 Well that's the site cleared and swept, ready for the addition of the foundations which have been made from a scrap piece of mdf screwed to the underside of the existing baseboard frame. To reach the Acme Engineering works a road will be constructed along the length of the front of the baseboard this will help to protect the front of the layout, the first picture shows what I will very roughly model my building on hopefully. Some picture of progress so far. All the best Adrian.

grahame
I was going to say that it looks very much like Carlisle Lane at Waterloo. There was pub there next to the viaduct, the Royal George, that sold Ruddles County in the mid 70s that I occasionally had a drink in. According to this is was demolished in 2000: http://closedpubs.co.uk/london/se1_southwark_royalgeorge.html but it would make a great model. They were still there in the 1970's - I did my early R&R Ops classes there when still a clerk! RMweb Gold Popular Post westerhamstation Posted May 8, 2019 Author RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted May 8, 2019 (edited) It's now possible to gain access to the Acme Engineering works construction site by road, It's a very narrow road, and a loss of concentration could find the careless driver plummeting to the garage floor to be trampled on by Mrs W Station putting the washing in the tumble dryer. The road has been made from MDF sprayed grey with a layer of mount board glued to the surface for the pavement, this has had the top layer peeled off within 1.5mm from the front edge to represent the curb stones which have been marked out with a 2h pencil, the surface of the pavement has had a very light spray of grey primer and pastel chalks used to finsh off the surface. At some point I will add some street lighting, poster hoardings and a bit more weathering. All the best Adrian. grahame
That's certainly a vertigo inducing precipitous drop and a rather narrow road without any barriers - and no passing places, so luckily nothing coming the other way. I like the tip/idea for producing the kerb stones and rough pavement finish. G 1 1
RMweb Gold Alister_G Posted May 8, 2019 RMweb Gold Share Posted May 8, 2019 You've done it again, haven't you...
