blueeighties
We have plaster! And a ducting hole for my extractor. Just lights, paint, and furnishing to finish. Oh, and the sink, and and...... This will be my 'store room' aka junk room... It's shocking that paint is not on the walls yet, after all we have been working solid for 2 weeks I can't quite get my head around the fact that just over a week and a half ago, this was a garage..... blueeighties
First attempt at hand lining. Not bad, it will improve....
Colin parks
Hi Lee, Interesting photos of your lining experiments. Have you got the book by Ian Rathbone on painting? If you haven't, there are some interesting tips on lining in it which make the task a whole lot less scary. One thing that I found really encouraging was that even Mr Rathbone didn't expect to line around curves without some form of correction, and there are useful descriptions of techniques to correct the painted lines. (Mostly involving spirit-dampened brushes.) The book recommends using gloss paint on a gloss varnished surface. If the paint is too thin it spreads. I was surprised that quite thick paint is required for use in bow pens - not sure about the Bob Moore type that you have. All the best, Colin (see I got your name right tonight!) Pete Harvey
Lee If you warm the paint i.e. microwave some water in a small bowl 15 secs, then stand the paint in the water (remove the top) then you should not need the lighter fluid. All six were lined that way no lighter fluid used.

blueeighties
The office build marches on. All of the electrical sockets have gone in this evening, ( I took these pictures this morning so they aren't in them!). I have a full lone in plastic trunking which will sit above the benches, on the wall where you can see the extractor duct outlet. I'm absolutely Knackered now, it's been nigh on 3 weeks of solid graft, and late nights. I was hoping to get it furnished and in for this weekend, but there is just too much to do. I just hope this is all going to be worth it when its eventually finished. I have installed a small basin for loco stripping, and have tried my hand at dry lining. What a hard and messy bloody job that is! I still have a door to hang here too. Back to the bench, and I have been carving 3 Bachmann class 40 chassis up in readiness for sound and light fitting. One of my latest creations, can't wait to hear how it sounds! blueeighties
I managed to get a few hours on the workbench this morning, for a change a bit of n gauge stuff. These have all been given there basic tone down, picking out and highlighting to follow next. Small fry! This little beauty is getting done as 124, 'Blue Circle Cement'. The plan is to do my 00 version at the same time! Question. What has 216 windows, that are EXTREMELY difficult to remove? Answer, 8 Bachmann EMU carriages that are getting repainted into Jaffa cake livery.
blueeighties
The last couple of days have seen respray work halted because of the mess and upheaval of trying to move into the new workspace. I have decided to just concentrate on this and get it finished. Yesterday was spent moving 2 full bookcases of stuff in, and a few bits and bobs. Today has seen the construction of all of the framework ready to plonk the workbenches on, and I am adding under bench shelving for additional storage. Getting it finished now all hinges on how quick Ikea can deliver the benches

blueeighties
Yet another trip to IKEA today, and another carfull of very useful storage items purchased. Today all the worktops have been cut and installed, some storage units built, the sink plumbed in, and at long last, some equipment shifted in. Oh yes, and the all important alarm system installed too. Not that many jobs then Tomorrow I have some blinds to put up, the underbench shelving to cut and install, and I need to start putting shelving up for the million and one paints, tools, kits, liquorice allsorts that one uses when working. I might actually get some modelling work done on Sunday!!

RMweb Gold griffgriff Posted October 12, 2013 RMweb Gold Share Posted October 12, 2013 I don't want to sound like 'Mr You Don't Wanna Do It Like That' but I think you might find the sink will become irritatingly small to strip locos in (unless you're keeping to 2mm).... having said that I'm green with envy with all the other facilities you have to hand

RMweb Gold griffgriff Posted October 12, 2013 RMweb Gold Share Posted October 12, 2013 Very true but you can get mini butler sinks that have a similar footprint but are better proportioned for your needs (in your new venture you might very well be doing a great deal of stripping and that sink is going to get some usage, it would be a shame to spray your tidy surroundings with mucky sink water)... but it's a great working space all the same.
