b*ggeredupclass03
Right, here we go. Some of you may know I model in the Early 80s, and my next project will be a Nuclear flask unloding point. I realise that BR used Flatrol MJs first, and then gradually phased in FNA wagons, but apart from the RNA barrier wagon, which are too late for me, I can't find any info on the net about Early 80s barrier wagons. There are some photos on a site called 2D53.com of a Nuclear train near Trawsfynydd in '82, but I can't glean what type of wagons they are. Long story short, does anyone have any info on what BR used for Nuke barrier wagons in the early 80s, before the RNAs?
eastwestdivide
To help the wagon experts, the photos are at http://www.2d53.co.u...dd Branch 1.htm and the barriers look like long wheelbase 4 wheel flat things, almost like a Plate. If it helps, I've a couple of photos of trains with the XKB B9005xx series wagons, with no barriers, only a brake van, in about 1981-82. One might just be in a shunt move at Derby, but the other is passing through Stratford with a 37, presumably from Sizewell.
jonhall
The RNA's are HEA coal hoppers with the bodies cut down, and compleate HEA's were used before the conversion was done. I've also seen photos of the VIX ferry vans in use as barriers. edit -shows an RNA and an HEA http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/22303-Bachmann-fna-nuclear-flask-wagon/page__st__75&do=findComment&comment=505060 Jon
hmrspaul
As well as BR ferry vans which were used, other air braked wagons could be used - the flats could be Carfit C, SAA etc. http://paulbartlett.zenfolio.com/brbarrierrunner Paul Bartlett
