Morning Al,

Simply wanted to say thank you for a great year of inspiration and fun, I really have learned a lot! I also want to take the opportunity to wish you and all your family a very Merry Christmas and a happy and prosperous New Year. Looking forward to what surprises you have for us in 2015,

Kind regards,

Jock.

Don't worry. Al's fine apart from being rushed off his feet at work. Spoke to him last weekend and had a chat. He's obviously a bit cheesed off at having no modelling time as he's got a load of C&L track arrived that he wants to get on and build.

Cheers

Marcus

Today, is the first time I have logged on to RMWeb for nearly 2 months.

I'm really sorry that I just disappeared without warning.

The reasons are complex, and I don't intend to bore you with them.

Whilst not modelling, I have spent a while setting up a website relating to the layout. It's not finished yet, but please take a look:

http://www.modellingbakewellstation.com

As to modelling, for the moment I have decided to continue doing what I enjoy, and that is scratchbuilding and scenery.

So, lets do some modelling!

I have been thinking about how to display the abandoned truck which I modeled some time ago, and to that end I've bought a set of Oxford Diecast models...

I forgot to photograph the livestock trailer before I started attacking it, but here's some photos of it after I've painted and weathered it:

Next, I turned my attention to the hay baler. I have to say, although it claims to be 1/76th scale, it seems to be rather large, but anyway, here it is as it comes:

First, I gave it a coat of bright red - this or green seems to be what most farm implements are painted.

Then, I attacked it with rust colours, and some weathering powders, to produce this:

I haven't yet touched the farm trailer which came in the set - I'm not sure I will use this in  the scene I'm planning.

In my next post I'll explain more what I'm planning.

Thanks for looking,

Al.

So, my idea to display the abandoned Bedford lorry is to show it in an overgrown setting. To that end, I've bought a load of different static grasses, of different colours and lengths.

However, I thought that this would look a bit daft in isolation, so to give it some context I thought I would build a barn, and create a small diorama.

For the shell, I used 80thou black plasticard.

I took one sheet, and cut it into the sections I need:

I marked out the gable ends:

Here's all the sections cut out:

I planned to double up the layers to create a good strong structure. I therefore cut down the edges of the inside layer fo the gable, to form a supporting slot for the sides.

The barn I'm modelling is based on a typical Peak District structure, and therefore is built of rough limestone, with gritstone quoins.

To make the quoins, I used some offcuts of Slater's 4mm York Paving:

The main structure, I clad in Slater's 4mm Random Stone.

Here's the first gable end:

One gable has a loading door in it, and so I marked that out and cut it:

post-17302-0-32514800-1426348388_thumb.jpg

Then I cut away the Rough Stone to match the shape of the quoins:

post-17302-0-33790600-1426348392_thumb.jpg

and attached the  gable stone to one end:

I did the same with the plain back section:

post-17302-0-94122400-1426348396_thumb.jpg

and the same with the side where the doors are.

post-17302-0-09970500-1426348399_thumb.jpg

Then I gave the whole structure a coat of Humbrol Matt Acrylic no.22 White as a base coat to work on.

That's as far as I've got, more tonight.

Thanks for looking,

Al.

Hi Al, and welcome back, glad that you have finished mowing the lawn. All the best Adrian.

I need a new set of blades on that lawnmower... but no-one seems to stock them in 4mm...

I've only just managed a quick glance, but that station  halt you've built is awesome!

I will have to spend a week or two catching up with everybody's threads.

Cheers mate.

Good to see you back in the saddle! More nice modelling work Al. The back door of the livestock trailer, have you made it so it can be opened or just to give the impression.

Thanks Scott, the model comes with it all in one piece, so I cut down each side of the tailgate and bent it outwards slightly, just so it looks like it's a bit open.
