RMweb Gold McRuss Posted April 7, 2015 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted April 7, 2015 The weekend before easter I held an operating session on my layout. On saturday morning we started with a traditional english breakfast. After all of us, where saturated, we started the clock and we could run the trains to a timetable These time we've got some premiers. Since the last operating session many things have changed. Unfortunatly we only could run one timetable. I haven't made pictures on saturday but on sunday I could made some photos from a Farish 3MT on the layout.Markus
RMweb Gold McRuss Posted April 23, 2015 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted April 23, 2015 During the last three days I worked on a Metcalf Post Office/Village shop kit.To improve the finish I painted the corners of the main bulding grey, the corners on the lean on structureswill be painted to. To improve the look of the roof, I used Noch/Redutex 3D slate. In the next days I will finish the building by adding the roof on the dormers, painting the remainingcorners and placing the chimneys.I placed the shop in the heart of Leckmelm so that the community of Leckmelm is provided with everythingthey need.Markus

RMweb Gold McRuss Posted July 8, 2015 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted July 8, 2015 Hello,During the last few weeks it was a bit quiet about my railway. These was mainly related to tracklaying on my H0 layout which sits above the Garve and Ullapool Railway. But I could achieve some progress on the layout.First I have nearly finished the village shop. Only the chimney pots are missing.I also placed the new platform at Leckmelm, it is constructed in the same way as the platforms at InverlaelA few days ago I inserted wooden rail crossings from Model Scene (a czech manufacturer) between the rails at my two level crossingsat Leckmelm. But I had also a major throwback at Inverlael. I tried to shorten the actuating wire at one of the turnouts and demolished the throwbar of the turnout, so I hadto remove it. Now I'm waiting for the replacement, which I ordered a few days ago.Markus

RMweb Gold McRuss Posted July 26, 2015 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted July 26, 2015 During the last few days I worked on the future site of the Distillera at InverlaelFirst I greened the the hill which makes the conntection to the next module withWoodland Scenics blended turf. Then I used a static grass applicator for thegras fibres. The street was made with the proven method of thinned PVA appliedon the fine ballast. Then I cut the base for the distillery buildings and glued them down.I will then fill the ground at the distillery with modelling Moltofil. Then I will sand it down and even. and then I will stamp in the cobble stones.I also put the future wall elements in it position. I like the height of the wall, butthe thickness is to much I think. In the pictures you could see a track which diverges in a right angle from the track. There I plan to connect it with the distillery siding viaa wagon turntable. But I'm not sure if I should use a Peco 009 one, a GEM one or a scratchbuilt one.Questions over questions.Markus
RMweb Gold McRuss Posted July 28, 2015 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted July 28, 2015 Today I made the wagonturntable for the distilleryI used 1mm styrene sheet, Atlas Code 55 flextrack, superglue, 1mm diameter drill, caliper, cutter, ruler, a small halfround file, circle cutter, and some cardboard.First I made a 9mm wide strip of the 1mm styrene sheet, with the helf of my caliper, ruler and cutter, then I testfitted the strip in my Peco and Atlas flextrack.Next I meassured the longest wheelbase of the wagons which ususally are send to the distillery. The wheelbase was 32mm, so I settled for a 35mm diameter. Now I used the circle cutter for cutting outthe turntable. I also cut out a ring with 39mm outside diameter and 35mm inside diameter. For the turntable well I used a fitting piece of styrene sheet and cut out a hole with 35mm diameter. For the baseplate I used 1mm styrene sheet and drilled a 1mm hole in it for centering the turntable. After all the cutting was done, I cleaned everything with the halfround file. Then I tested if theturntable was rotating well in the turntable well. Now I cut a piece of Atlas Code 55 flex track a bit oversize. and removed some of the sleeper. Then with the help of the plastic strip I glued down the track with superglue. When it was dry I cut the rails to length. Now I went to the layout and removed some of the track. Before that happend I made centering hole where the turntable would be.With the help of the centering hole I glued the baseplate in place.Next I glued down the turntable well. And when the glue was dry, I fitted in some Atlas flextrack. To get the right height on the join between the Peco and Atlas track I used a cardboard strip. With these method I also glued down the other tracks, but here I used entirely the Atlas flextrack. Then it was time for testing with a wagon.Markus

RMweb Gold McRuss Posted August 25, 2015 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted August 25, 2015 During the last two or three weeks I made some progress on the Inverlael Distillery area.Oposite on the other side of the tracks is the house of the distillery manager. The paper kit is a simple one, so it is hidden behind some trees. The trees are made of a Hornby tree building kit.Last week I received the signal box kit from Severn Models. The staircase is a delicate thing to complete but I managed it.Markus
RMweb Gold McRuss Posted August 29, 2015 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted August 29, 2015 Hello, a few years ago I started with scratchbuilding of a Caledonian Railway Class 439. I used a Dapol Southern M7. Here are the pictures from the start of the scratchbuilt. A picture from the prototype. For a long time I din't continue with the loco. In january or february I put some plastic strips under the enginehouse and smoothed the joints with some plastic filler. Today I reduced the height of the coal bunker. Because in comparison to the prototype on my model it is to high. And I put the pieces together for a testfit. But I recognised that I have lost the original Dapol chimney, so I have to look for a replacement. And I'm thinking of increasing the height of the watertanks on the side of the boiler. What are you thinking about increasing the height? Markus
RMweb Gold McRuss Posted August 30, 2015 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted August 30, 2015 (edited) Hello, today I need a little bit of your help, because I'm not certain how to do some areas atInverlael.First the area between the station throat and the distillery tracks. What in your opinion would suit the area better?a: a garden allotment (but Inverlael is only a small hamlet)b: some railway workers cottagesc: Some waste land with remains from a former MDP, let us assume that Inverlael was similar to Strome Ferry on the Kyle line a temporary terminus of the line. The other area ist the area of the distillery and cooperage. Here I'm not sure if I should go with the existing trackwork. The nearest track to the edge of the layout would be the place for the cooperageand at the and of the headshunt would be a small engine shed for the distillery locomotive.Or should I insert a turnout in the headshunt? The track would then lead to the cooperage and the existing track would lead to the distillery warehouses. At the end of the headshunt there would be the eninge shed too.I would be pleased if you could help me.Thanks for your efforts.Markus Edited August 30, 2015 by McRuss
RMweb Gold McRuss Posted September 15, 2015 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted September 15, 2015 I started to add an additional warehouse to the Inverlael distillery. For the dimension I used a SD mouldings warehouse which I own.Yesterday I sketched down the base and the sidewalls.Today I draw in the windowopenings and cut out the walls. Then I made a mock up from the walls to look if it will look right.By looking on the pictures, especially the second one I realize that the height of the walls could be reduced a little bit.The building will sit on a 3mm base, so I can reduce it a few milimeters and the loading dock will be on the right height.Markus
RMweb Gold McRuss Posted September 17, 2015 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted September 17, 2015 Work continued at InverlaelFirst I worked on the bridges over the small streamThey are not finished yest but I think they won't look to bad. Then I continued with the work on the warehouse. The walls are now errected. RMweb Gold McRuss Posted October 25, 2015 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted October 25, 2015 (edited) These weekend it was train time on the Garve and Ullapool Railway.Despite the usual suspects, some friends and Londonbus from these parish that lives near Frankfurt joined the operating session. As usual we started with an english breakfastBecause Tremayne from Rmweb arrived a bit late, we had our breakfast without original Cumberland sausages. But these provided uswith extra calories during a break at the afternoon. The session was also used to test something new. And I tested the option to add an analouge thottle to the Digitrax Zephyr, but these caused us trouble.Because many locomotives studdert when they run. And after disconnecting the analouge throttle everything runs without problems. And a short film I made during the session Markus Edited October 25, 2015 by McRuss
