RMweb Gold McRuss Posted December 12, 2012 RMweb Gold Share Posted December 12, 2012 After a house move during the summer, I've got a slightly larger railway room. So after my terminus Uig was getting a little old, I decided to change focus of my theme from the Isle of Skye to Ullapool. Here a sketch of the proposed layout. Here is the trackplan for Ullapool. It is based on the Turso. My thanks go to Ben Alder for his help with the plans. Last week I started the construction for the Ullapool modules. Today I copied the trackplan to the trackbase for the first two modules. Markus
Ben Alder
Looks very promising- you will have a sense of space that I cannot manage in 4mm, unfortunately ageing eyesight precludes a downward shift for me- that and a lack of suitable motive power ,but I will follow this with interest. RMweb Gold McRuss Posted December 17, 2012 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted December 17, 2012 I continued the work on my Ullapool modules, I copied the track plan on 1,5mm MDF for the trackbed except the harbour area and then cut the trackbed out. The tracks in the harbour area will directly glued to the module. Here are some pictures Markus
MichaelW
Hi Markus. You look like you have the startings of an impressive layout there. I like the way the size of the plan dwarves the stock you've placed on it. I'll keep watching to see how you progress. Michael
Andrew P
A very professional start ther Markus, With Richard, (Ben Alder) as a Tutor and guiding hand you should be able to produce a very worthy layout. My next project is in N and will be similar the Glenfinnan in Ian Futter book Scottish Layout Projects. I am not one for copying prototypes so mine will be Glenfinick on a 5ft x 2ft 3 inch board. Good luck with this, but I don;t think you need luck as you appear way ahead in the skills department. Andy.
RMweb Gold McRuss Posted December 17, 2012 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted December 17, 2012 Thank you for your comments. This is my biggest station project. Until shortly my largest station got 13 turnouts. But now I've got 18. Andy I hope you could show us the first pictures from your new project shortly. RMweb Gold McRuss Posted December 30, 2012 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted December 30, 2012 The last few days I continued with my work on Ullapool. The first tracks and turnouts are glued down with Pattex contact glue. Markus
RMweb Gold McRuss Posted January 11, 2013 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted January 11, 2013 Now some progress on my Ullapool project. The trackwork is now laid on module 2 and on module 3 there only the tracks that connect with module 4 have to be laid. The next stepts are soldering the wires on the tracks, and cutting the tracks on the joint between modules 2 and 3. Then joining modules 3 and 4 and laying the rest of the track. RMweb Gold McRuss Posted January 16, 2013 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted January 16, 2013 Today I finished the tracklaying except for the MPD area, the tracks there will installed when I receive the turntable. After that I have to install the electric part. The turnouts will be sets either by turnout motors or mechanically. Markus
RMweb Gold McRuss Posted January 23, 2013 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted January 23, 2013 I asked my friend Matthias Hacker, to draw a sketch for my Ullapool station, for a better visualisation. Here is the result. During the tracklaying I missed to drill a hole in one of the throwbars of one turnout. I thought no problem, and tried to drill it after the instalation, but due to the fact, that there wasn't any surface below the middle of the throwbar it broke. So I had to remove the turnout and replace it. Markus
RMweb Gold McRuss Posted January 24, 2013 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted January 24, 2013 Today I completed laying the trackwork. After opening a hole for the turntable, and installing the turntable well. I put the missing tracks for my Depot down on the module. Here is the result. RMweb Gold McRuss Posted February 18, 2013 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted February 18, 2013 A few days ago, I made the first testrun with a train. Yesterday I built the base for the platform. Markus
RMweb Gold McRuss Posted March 17, 2013 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted March 17, 2013 Today I finished the construction of the last module needed for my railway room. Frist some pictures from the room The Fiddle Yard Module for the future avalanche gallery Further modules the newly built module Leckmelm station Line to Ullapool Ullapool Before the first official train could depart for Ullapool an inspection train will inspect the line The train ready for the ride These pictures and the pictures from the first official passenger train are made by only one trainspotter, no photographs from the local and national press was present. After the successful inspection, the first passenger train could depart for Ullapool. Because there is much mail to be delivered, most of the train ist made of NPCCS. At Ullapool the mail is longingly awaited by the postman, but I think he would have to drive a few times until the mail is unloaded. RMweb Gold McRuss Posted April 25, 2013 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted April 25, 2013 Today I made a mockup for my Ullapool Trainshed, which is based on the Thurso one.The size did I get from Ben Alder, and the length did I guess by comparing width and length on Google Maps. Here you could see the pictures of the mockupHow's your opinionPictures of the Thurso prototype could be found at Ernies Scottish pictures on page 2http://www.flickr.com/photos/irishswissernie/sets/72157626440055275/with/5648485321/Markus
RMweb Gold McRuss Posted April 26, 2013 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted April 26, 2013 Hello, due to a hint from a friend from my german british railway forum I reworked the fronts of the trainshed. And I added the annex on the side of the trainshedAnd I added the base for the road at the end of the station.Markus
RMweb Gold McRuss Posted May 3, 2013 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted May 3, 2013 Since my last post I continued with the trainshed.I used Balsawood and card for the construction of the shed, and used Scalescenes texture for the wall texture of the interior, which stil need some detailing. At the end I will use Scalescenes Random Ashlar Texture for the outside of the trainshed.Markus
RMweb Gold McRuss Posted May 3, 2013 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted May 3, 2013 (edited) About 3 weeks ago I held an operating session with some of my friends. After a full english breakfast on Saturday morning we started with running the Garve and Ullapool Railway for the first timeaccording to a timetable. For the operation we decided to settle for the late 1960s to mid 1970s.So there were no steam engines in use.The morning timetable started slowly with some passenger trains, but around midday there were 3 goods trains going to Ullapool within hours, that have to be shunted at Ullapool. What matters worse was that there was the regular passenger train movements. After that thing calmed down a bit, and on the afternoon timetable the fictious Branchline could be served with a goodstrain. With the expirience from the first timetable we made some conclusions for the following timetabel operation. And the second timetable went very well. Here is the link to my picasa web albumhttps://picasaweb.google.com/107465074458422577260/SessionApril2013?authkey=Gv1sRgCLetpPizk_bVmwEThe pictures are made by some friends of mine and myself.Markus Edited May 3, 2013 by McRuss
