sn
I thought I knew the route quite well from studying Ivo Peters books , but on following the route today on Google Earth I came across Hamwood (I think thats right) tunnel and viaduct north of Evercreech Jnc which I cannot recall ever having heard of before. Did Peters ever photograph these locations? Also, can anyone direct me to the exact location of Masbury Summit on Google Erath? Thanks Len
RMweb Gold beast66606 Posted December 19, 2012 RMweb Gold Share Posted December 19, 2012 Can't help with the specifics, but this may help you http://www.oldmapsonline.org/
Chris Nevard
I've never heard of that name, but the location (Ham Woods) would suggest you've found Windsor Hill Tunnels http://goo.gl/maps/OUx4N The summit of the line is just north of Masbury Station (aka Maesbury) http://goo.gl/maps/ZZ1WP
R A Watson
This is Windsor Hill Tunnel, one of my cousins married into the family who own Ham Farm. Her husband once complained to me that he could hear the trains running round at Mendip Vale Platform on the East Somerset when he is out counting cows. sn
Windsor Hill, oh yes, right I see. Thanks all. Tell you what I also found today, at the point where the line crossed the WR near Cole you can just discern the route of the never used connection with the GWR line. https://maps.google.co.uk/maps?q=evercreech&hl=en&ll=51.104088,-2.480636&spn=0.007168,0.021136&sll=51.779949,-2.625389&sspn=0.056501,0.169086&t=h&hnear=Evercreech,+Somerset,+United+Kingdom&z=
Stephen Lacey (92245)
If you cut and paste the following into Google Maps, it will give you the location of Masbury Summit: 51.229396,-2.560066 Cheers, Stephen
