Got to say I do like the new green one!  If I didn't already have a couple of others, I'd be tempted.  That said, I nearly bought the blue MSN one from Hattons recently too, excellent value at £40, but since I still haven't found a use for the other two, I decided against it.  I do like the green version in Andrew's post though, it is usefully very generic and could be used anywhere - when I first saw it my initial thought was MoD, warflats, warwells, etc.  Some useful prototype pics there too, thanks.

Hello everyone

I am really disappointed to Hornby did not new livery of sentinel shunter based British steel work all yellow with lower wasp stripes

All in good time, I am sure it will eventually come out. There's quite a few do and Hornby cannot please everybody.

There's two of them:-

It wouldn't surprise me to see one eventually Andrew, they do look quite good!  I can see this being a popular little model for a while yet, with so many liveries for Hornby to choose, as well as the potential for customisation for fictional private sidings and the like.  If you're in a hurry though, yellow with wasp stripes should be an easy repaint.  In fact, as I Googled for it, there's one on page 26 of this thread, with added stripes on the side if you want a challenge!  And here too: http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/76328-in-praise-of-industrials/?p=1179972

In fact, if you start off with one like this http://www.ekmpowershop7.com/ekmps/shops/cmmodels/images/Hornby-r3354-barabel-4-wheel-drive-sentinel-diesel-shunter-8802-p.jpg the ' Barabel' red version, you'd not even need to paint the stripes, just undercoat and spray the body, could even be done with a rattle can I dare say...

Can anyone spot the interesting feature on the Falmouth docks one linked above? Answers on a postcard..

It looks like it has doors onto the front running plate.

Cheers,

Mick

As already mentioned, the windscreen. Someone also mentioned the possibility of a door, and it looks recessed. Anyone spotted the skyward pointing headlights?? Probably gave it's railway duties to be a search light.  :jester:

The biggest difference is the lack of handrail/plate in front of the cab it makes a bid difference! Removal of the sheet was also done to one at Bromford Bridge and one of the six coupled ones currently at Boulby has this!

I have a question for you guys, I'm currently fitting lights to my sentinel I've got the red and white markers already fitted and I'm fitting headlights to either end and will be fitting a cab light and flashing strobe on the roof but I was wondering how the lights are set up for running in each direction

Has anyone had any experience of running a Hornby Sentinel on Peco's Set-track turnouts and crossing - both dead frog? With that short a wheelbase, I wonder if it will stall on the frogs?

My ones have no trouble, though the outer crank does it a bit more smoothly.

Hope this videos of help.

Only if you go very slowly.

Peco set-track straight turnouts are feasible, but the curved turnouts (unmodified) will stop a Sentinel dead due to the length of the plastic frog on them, as I discovered to my cost.

I quite fancy repainting one of these into "Jean", resident shunter at the paddock wood Transfesea terminal back in the 90's.

Looks like british steel blue would be a good match, the wasp stripes being white instead of yellow is quite interesting.

Hello!

I am considering ordering some nameplates from NP for a Sentinel. I have two questions - 1) what style did you go for? (Looks like Hunslet style) and 2) what is the height of the plate?

It looks very smart!

Thank you

Yes they where Hunslet style. Those where 2mm high but all subsequent ones I have had made 2.5mm high. just gives a but of extra wriggle room to cover the original printed plate.
