East West rail, Bletchley to oxford line

Recommended Posts

How can anyone not be saddened by the loss of such a place?

Mind you, it had slipped into such a state of dilapidation that I reckon it would have literally cost a million to arrest the decay and put it back into good order to last another few decades.

Anyone seen what they have been doing to the water Eaton road bridge for the EWR?

Water Eaton Road is now closed to through traffic to enable the construction of a new access point to the flyover seen here on the 20th December.

There are road closure and diversion signs on the way to the roundabout that links Buckingham Road, Sherwood Drive and Water Eaton Road. Work started today despite some signs saying closure would take effect from the 11th.  Pictures taken this morning..

On the other hand it is not the 11th yet, so he might have read that sign and thought the others didn't apply yet, especially as he would have seen green lights through the bridge.

Not an excuse but maybe a reason.

Jonathan

The Road Closed (red) sign was in advance of the yellow one.

There was an opportunity to turn into the small industrial estate on the right to turn round which I saw one other motorist do.

The result of not taking notice of the signs is having to do a 10 point turn on a narrow road and going back from whence you started!

And idiotic placement of the barriers not at the previous T.

They've been learning from Worcestershire CC

It's not unknown to arrive at a road closed with no advanced warning:huh:

There was a fair bit of that a couple of years ago on a route I regularly used.

There were alternatives if there was prior warning, also one of the roads used for a signposted diversion was a single track country lane with passing places, hardly ideal for frequent two way traffic, let alone large commercial vehicles.

Another WCC trick is to divert you from the closed road but with no follow up signage for the diversion route!

They obviously realised the problem early on. However, they need access between the two main works sites one of which is on the right by this junction which is also the access to a small industrial estate (several occupants being involved in the motor industry). The other is the old Telephone Rentals site which is to the left of where the picture was taken from.

This picture was taken Saturday 16 January.

He also said that this money would help ‘left behind areas’ ....... now, correct me if I’m wrong, but the issue with the Cambridge, Bedford, mk, Oxford corridor is not that we are ‘left behind’ so much as overheated, leading to pressure on land for housing and on roads.

Spin.

Happens in Edinburgh, too, especially at this time of year.

It's a well-kept secret, but Edinburgh "the festival city" has an annual winter roadworks festival from mid-January to early February when drivers, cyclists and pedestrians can take time to enjoy the cheerful temporary coloured lights ('coz they ain't going to be going anywhere in a hurry) every 400 yards or so along their journey, and admire the workies in their traditional hi-viz costumes performing the famous "hmm, didn't expect to find that down there" tribal dance in which six of them stand around a bleedin' great hole in the carriageway scratching their heads in puzzlement while a seventh calls head office on his mobile seeking advice on what to do next.

That Grant Shapps quote is a classic "dog ate my homework": when you don't want to admit the real reason because it won't go down well, so you make up something that sounds vaguely plausible, more palatable to the audience, and difficult to immediately disprove so you can probably get away with it even though you know the audience is pretty darn certain that it's lie.

Sadly in this county the current administration at the "Peoples republic of Central Bedfordshire"  have a map that excludes this part of Bedfordshire. For what is a wealthy County Sandy has a worse rate of deprivation per capita than Luton. East West is planned to avoid the area altogether
