RMweb Gold rodent279 Posted April 13, 2018 RMweb Gold Share Posted April 13, 2018 (edited) Back in the days when Northampton had it's own station pilot, 08160 stands in the parcels bay, once the Market Harborough branch platforms, on a chilly 10th October 1984. Barely noticeable is the black bonnet & cab roof, which 160 wore from at least around 1981, also carrying the name Wolverton on one side for a time. Being vacuum braked it was withdrawn just over a year after this photo, in December 1985, having been in service for 30yrs since being built at Darlington. It was cut up at Doncaster in September 1986. Southof1E top tmd - we had a tasty starter in 81013 from LB that evening, on 1B07, followed by a ride home on 1A76 behind the equally delicious 81018, which I enjoyed to Watford! chris37422
Currently the freshest liveried Gronk is 08645 at Penzance Long Rock, which carries Kernow/Cornish black/white. The loco arrived from Landore following the closure of that facility and the loco will allow for 08410 to be stood down from traffic with GWR shortly. 08410, in its smart original GWR green with modern safety embellishments is also depicted below. The loco being a 90V example rather than the preferred 110V, the reason for its impending withdrawal.

Rugd1022
Can't quite make out the loco number but here's a shot from a chap called Bob Faulkner (father-in-law of one our drivers at Rugby) taken on the Northampton to Blisworth line c.1964, the newly installed OLE and colour light signalling amounted to nothing and the line was closed later on... Only a guess, but I would estimate D3054. Fairly confident about the D305 and working through the possibilities for the remaining digit 4 looks the most promising for me.

D3054 & D3055 were allocated to Rugby at the time, although, I agree the last digit looks to be a "4" Edited June 25, 2019 by Pannier Tank
